The part I love most about Halloween is in seeing neighbours that we don't usually see throughout the year...especially distant ones.

We usually set up our entire front lawn with a "haunted house" feel to it and dress up and interact with the kids.  It takes HOURS of work to do and then HOURS more to take down and put away....all for about 2 hours worth of shell out time but, well worth it.

Last year, we were the ONLY ones on our our block who was shelling out.  This really and truly was upsetting as the kids had to walk very long distances to other streets to get their treats and it was discouraging for us since a lot of parents decided to take other routes, hearing that no one was opening their doors down our street.  While I can understand the very elderly or infirm being unable to keep up to shell out to the kids, this wasn't the case with the neighbours around us!  They are all considered young and healthy and have the money to buy the candies to shell out.  When their kids were smaller and of trick or treating ages, they expected everyone else to hand out to THEIR children!  I just don't understand people today.

Love and Light,
Louellen

I like seeing my kids' faces when they dump the candy on the kitchen table to see what they got (we use pillowcases).  I also enjoy seeing adults get out there and having fun also.  My husband and I dress every year to walk with the kids and it's a lot of fun.

I never used to like when teenagers come to my door because they were too old.  I think that if you are old enough to go out alone and on your own on Halloween, you are too old to 'trick or treat'.  BUT the teens we had never caused any harm, they just wanted some candy so why not?  They can't do it as adults so they may as well enjoy before they hit the real world!

when our daughter was in the 6th grade will had a Halloween party
the woods next to the house, we
made a trail for them, and had family come and dress in all kinds of crazy ways
I was the leader...dressed as a witch...to make sure all the kids stayed in a line, they had  to hold a rope as not to loss one in the line..
the first stop was my sister-in law dressed up not sure what she was..lol
but she was in front of a pot we set up to look like a brew...

then we had made a graveyard...with cardboard tomestones, my neice
was dressed in white, and her face with white makeup,
then hubby had made a coffin.....telling stories while we walked though
both my brothers dressed up running around the woods...one had a chainsaw at the end of the line it was the final stop of the line...
he was wearing overalls and a mask and had a chainsaw  with the motor running, without the blades.of course......lol
but the kids were old enough not to be scared to death......but it did freak them out at the end with the chainsaw
I don't know who had the best time the kids or the adults...LOL
then the party with food and drinks for them, they had a wonderful time

Here where we live out in the country.......in NC
no one brings their kids out any longer...
most of the schools and churches
and any clubs kids are in...they all flock to these events

when we lived in AZ
the homes were so close together, there was a contest within the communty
as to the best house.....
they done this for Halloween and Christmas
and People went all out for both.......
they would interact with the kids......some going to the best things you could ever think of
One house at christmas
would pay for a snow machine......they even had a good ole Santa setting
in his sled....letting the kids set on his lap
serving hot choc to both kids and adults
it really was a wonderful thing to see......they would have snowball fights
somthing that all the kids enjoyed and living in AZ where you could walk
around not needing a jacket most of the time..it made the hoildays feel
like holidays even with not having the change of seasons..like we have here...

so all the spirits  of the hoildays still lives in some areas.....

I will share my most favourite "trick or treater" story :)

I opened the door one year to see a little girl, dressed as a princess or a fairy. Instead of saying "trick or treat" and holding out her bag for candy, she reached down into a little basket, took a pinch of glitter, and sprinkled it on my front step as she said, "I wish you good luck." And then she just smiled at me, this huge, beautiful, childlike, innocent, angelic smile.

I think I gave her about a hundred pieces of candy!!!!

Love, K-Galaxie
