Hi peace, Eating healthy always helps, but then so does chocolate! Eating soy products will help give you phyto-estrogens, natural precursors to estrogen that will help your body even itself out. Evening Primrose oil has the same thing, as does Mexican Yam extract. Massage can be very beneficial because the skin also produces estrogen.
For the soy products, I highly recommend Silk brand soy milks and creamers, and I have several tofu recipes for everything from main dishes to desserts that I'd be happy to send along, if you like. I eat a lot of tofu, because it's something I've always enjoyed, even when those around me were saying, "yuck!" It's a bland food that takes on the flavor of anything it's combined with. The Evening (or Mexican) Primrose oil generally comes in capsules, and it's gotten a lot less expensive in the last few years. The Mexican Yam can be found in creams that you rub into your skin. You might also want to just check through the shelves at the local health food store for homeopathic and naturopathic remedies, teas and the like. And, as always, plenty of good water throughout the day.
Dark chocolate and tea, green or black has mood levelers and other good things that will help balance you out, too. Of course, moderation in everything, but to me that includes moderation, so I have a good chocolate pig out once in a while!
Your body is moving into a new phase, and it's something to celebrate. I have a little bag of stones and things that I call my "crone" bag, all things that came to me at about the same time, and I consider it very powerful energy! I keep it tucked in my bra or pocket whenever possible.
Let me know, and I'll send those recipes, and I'll also find a place to post them on my web page. Hang in there, girl, this is a time of power! As the saying goes, those aren't hot flashes, they're power surges!
XOXO, herbalista

Great advice, Herba. Way past needing 'the change' stuff, think I've had a hot flash or two, but have found that healthy eating is imperative for keeping a healthy body in 'old age'. I like tofu, have had some really superb dishes and some not so good. And, I don't know what made the difference. So, I'd love if you shared your knowledge and some recipes to try and any hints on using tofu.
Hugs, L & L

my reccomendation may seem strange but I actually went through menopause without hardly even noticing. I did take Black cohosh for a while when I decided sleep was not really necessary. but beyond that it was additude I didn't expect any problems so did not find them. I realised a long time ago that our bodies tend to act as we expect them to. so expect hot flashes ext . they are gonna manifest themselves. expect freedom and health and that also will maifest. so my advice is dont worry and dont look for negative. I think to a certain extent this is an extention of what we expected during our cycles , expect cramps and by golly thats what you get. Just my thoughts Love Wolfie |

I, too, would like to find something VERY effective for hot flashes! I used soya capsules for a while and although I did "cool down" somewhat, I wasn't feeling quite right..sort of like having a caffeine buzz all the time, after using it a couple of weeks. I did more research and found that it's really not recommended (at least in such concentrated doses). It can cause problems with blood pressure, which wasn't good for me since mine's elevated a bit. I eat tofu and drink soya drinks, and I think I'll stick with that. Anyone recommend (ideally from experience) other products that will bring down the heat - - yam? cohosh? Thanks! Linda |

about E.P. Oil....I've been using it a week or so before my monthly, and I think it's helped with PMS pain symptoms. I've had debilitating pain in the past, and started using naproxin (I think it's avaialbe as Aleve in the US), which helped immensely, but the EPO really keeps the pain so much in check that the last several months I hardly know it's upon me. Too made I didn't know about it decades ago!! Linda |
