I'd suggest researching different web sites and groups about this.. most of the time these sort of things require you to go that extra mile in order to discover what is best for you. There are many different techniques to centering yourself mind/body as well as spiritually and physically... Often times, larger city newespapers will advertise various meditation sessions and meetings, this may also be helpful to you.
My personal advice is to clear your head of any problems you may currently be dealing with. Stress is what draws our attention away from not only ourselves but that of the spiritual plane as well. Learn to have patience and understanding with what is currently causing you distress and find peace with coming to terms what is happening in your life. Often times, I find that succumbing to my reality "opens the gates" to what I'm truely searching for.
You may not hear anything, persay, at first.. but you will most likely become encompassed by specfic feelings after asking your questions. With time and patience... hearing voices or just knowing will make sense.
Follow your gut.. and the answers you're seeking will come to you.
Also... do not shy from emotions you may be feeling when meditating, those are the basis behind your questions and they will guide you towards the answers behind them.
