First, understand that Vancouver is about the only spot in Canada that doesn't have the "typical" Canadian winters. We used to be called the Rain Capitol of Canada, but with global warming, we have less and less rain and last summer was a drought. Since the end of November we've had 10 major winds storms and our first snow storm at the end of November. We normally get one or two dumps of snow in Jan or Feb, and the snow sticks around for only a day or two. I'm absolutely sick of all the wind (which has caused major damage, and ruined parts of Stanley Park, which some of you may be familiar with). And yesterday was at least the 3rd snow storm. Today was the limit! Having the day from hell! Had to take rattie Hugh to the vet first thing for the big SNIP, but I knew I should have cancelled yesterday, after we got 10" of snow!!! It's clear today and the roads are "passable". However, they are frozen solid. It took me way longer to get there than it normally does, and after that I tried to get to my music sessions at the care home. Well after a harrowing hour+ on the road (usually take 30-40 minutes to get there), and hitting waaaaaaay too many spots that were solid ice with no hope of braking successfully, I came home.
Trying to get into the vet's was a huge pain, too, literally. Apparently the centre has new management who are slackers about keeping the parking lot and sidewalks clear of snow and ice. I fell near the office...my wrist is sore from falling on it, and my other shoulder/back from trying to keep Hugh and his carrier from whacking into the concrete
Fortunately there was a bit of snow between the carrier and the concrete. However, his hut inside the carrier got tumbled around (so he did, too) and snow got inside the carrier!! He seemed alright and I got the snow out. I left him at the vet for the neuter, and I told them to feel him over (and please remove any wet blanketing!) when they took him into the back.
It was a bugger getting back to my truck, too. The ice was thick but clear (couldn't really see it), so you'd think you might be ok, then I wiped out! My hiking boots are no use for that. I had to tip toe my way, finding anything I could actually force my foot into to give it some stability and even when I found what I thought was snow, some of it was so frozen solid I couldn't NOT slip anyway.
I am SOOOOOOO not a happy camper today! I'm totally exhausted from the stress of driving part way into town, then back, and of course have lost that income. I'm hoping when the super gets back she'll let me make up that time.
I'm beat, have to lie down for a bit, and have to pick up Hugh this afternoon. Hopefully the parking lot will either be better cleared, or at least melted a bit -- I don't hold out much hope for either. Thats' my rant. *sigh*

One thing about it, Linda, you will never forget Hugh's Big Snip Day. Poor little guy, geez! And, you, bruised and exhausted, trying to do the right thing as a responsible pet owner. Hope it goes better for you. Searching |

Thanks, Searching! He seem no worse for wear! Judging by the way each of us is moving today, I think he's in less pain than I am! *lol* He was amazingly full of energy when I got him home, and I think the worst part is that he and his companion have to stay separated a day or two. His buddy seemed really distressed with Hugh being in the carrier! Cute little guys! Even though it's still cold the roads were so much better today!!
