Parakeets : What are "Rare parakeets"?

Our Petsmart sells Rare Parakeets. They are just yellow. I took it these were like the original parakeet color but I wondered why they were called "Rare"? Do they not have many of these anymore. I thought they looked really nice and rather larger than the colored parakeets in the store. Just wondering about them (not going to buy any, not going to buy any, not going to buy any, LOL).

Are they English budgies? Those aren't as common as the ones we see that cost so little.
Somebody may just think they can get a bigger price if they call them "rare", too.
There are lots of standard yellow budgies here, usually with a bit of green or blue on them.
Hey, maybe these are lutinos? Is there such a bird?

Petsmart uses the word "rare" only for marketing. They are common "American" budgies that are any color other than the 'wild type' green color or a non-pied blue. The colors might have been rare 25+ years ago.. but no longer. JMHO

Humm, these ones are just yellow and black and slightly larger than the colored parakeets in the other cages. Can't be lutino because they had the black on them as well.
