~~~ Deliverance by Grace ~~ Now I will continue to show that deliverance comes only by Grace, not by law. Genesis 6: 5. And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6. And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. 7. And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. 8. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. *************** Now this is the very first time ‘grace?is mentioned in the Word of God. Noah was the first person said to have found grace in the eyes of the Lord. So what was this to Noah? See that the whole earth was wicked and filled with violence. They only thought of evil all the time. There was no love of God left, to speak of. So there was enough evil and violence in the earth, that it made God sorry He had made man. So God decided to destroy the whole creation of man-kind and the other dust creatures he had made. One family of all the earth was saved at the time of that great flood. This was the man who had found GRACE. Only by finding Grace was Noah’s family forgiven any sins they had done and delivered from being destroyed in that flood. Grace delivered him. For only by grace can we receive mercy. On in mercy can we be forgiven sins. Without this, we will be destroyed with the wicked. The next time a great destruction is about to take place is down in Sodom and neighbor towns. You know the story, how the evil was so great and the just man, Lot was so vexed every day with all this evil which he saw around him. The angels of the Lord came and told him and his family to flee, they were going to destroy that evil place with fire. ******************************* Gen. 19: 15. And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city. 16. And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the Lord being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city. 17. And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed. 18. And Lot said unto them, Oh, not so, my Lord: 19. Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die: Now see that the only reason Lot and his family was spared this destruction is the same reason Noah and his family was spared --- they had found GRACE in the eyes of the Lord. Grace saved them. Only by Grace is deliverance from the punishment of sin. Only in grace is any mercy which is forgiveness. ************************ In Gen. 32 & 33 we are told of when Jacob is returning back to his homeland after the long stay in the land of Laban. As he approached his brother, Esau, he sent forth many cattle, sheep and other things as a gift to Esau in order to find ‘grace?in his sight.12. And Moses said unto the Lord, See, thou sayest unto me, Bring up this people: and thou hast not let me know whom thou wilt send with me. Yet thou hast said, I know thee by name, and thou hast also found grace in my sight.12. And Moses said unto the Lord, See, thou sayest unto me, Bring up this people: and thou hast not let me know whom thou wilt send with me. Yet thou hast said, I know thee by name, and thou hast also found grace in my sight. Remember, when Jacob left home he and Esau were very angry at each other and Esau had purposed to kill Jacob. So then, this ‘grace?meant Esau would not harm Jacob, but would be friends. Esau’s granting Jacob grace meant that he had forgiven Jacob and no longer held it against Jacob and he would not harm Jacob. This is grace = mercy = forgiveness. It is only possible in grace --- not law - for law DEMANDS punishment for disobedience. Now a great surprise--- the next person said to have found GRACE in the sight of the Lord was MOSES. Yes, the law giver was not under law; the law giver was under grace. Exodus 33: 12. And Moses said unto the Lord, See, thou sayest unto me, Bring up this people: and thou hast not let me know whom thou wilt send with me. Yet thou hast said, I know thee by name, and thou hast also found grace in my sight. Israel had been in bondage and slavery in Egypt for over 400 years. There was no deliverance for them UNTIL A MAN FOUND GRACE IN THE EYES OF THE LORD. There is no deliverance without grace. If you reject grace and cleave to Moses = law, you will have no mercy. In verse 13, Moses prays to God, If --I -- have found grace in they sight, shew me thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in they sight: and consider that this nation is thy people. 14. And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest. 15. And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence. 16. For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us? so shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth. 17. And the Lord said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name. Here is a great thing God revealed to me here: Moses had prayed and gotten approved as to the fact that he, himself had found grace in God’s sight. Then he proceeds to try to procure grace for the nation of Israel. But notice, that God refused to grant them grace. See in verse 17, God said back to Moses, for YOU have found grace in my sight. He did not accept Moses?plea for grace, or mercy from God for the nation. It was only Moses who was in grace, the nation was under law. Look at Ex. 34:9-- Again Moses seeks for God to go among them on the grounds that he, himself alone had found grace. He did not again add “and thy people? Read Judges six. It is very good reading. The Israelites had sinned and God had let the Midianites oppress them and they had destroyed all Israel’s food. They destroyed the wheat in the field. There was a man named Gideon. He had some wheat he had hid from the Midianites. See, he had the ‘hidden?food, or manna. So an angel of the Lord came to him and told him he would deliver Israel. Why? Because he had found GRACE in the eyes of the Lord. There is some great revelation in this chapter, but I will not go into it now. The important thing to this message is that this is the next time in the Word someone is said to have found grace. In this grace was deliverance for the impoverished Israel. There is much more in the Word on this, but this is all I will teach right now. May this be a blessing to all who read it. |
