On Wednesday 13 April, Pte Johnson Beharry VC (the first living recipient of the Victoria
Cross since 1965) will join forces with The Royal British Legion to launch ‘The Nation’s
Biggest Thank You?campaign, onboard the HMS Albion. The launch will see the
unravelling of a gigantic Victory flag (500m²) which will cascade down the iconic White
Cliffs of Dover emblazoned with the word ‘Thanks?
Centring on the 60th anniversary of the End of World War II, the Legion’s campaign aims to give the British public the opportunity to say ‘Thank You?to the men and women who fought for our freedom and to raise important funds for its welfare work with all those who have served, and continue to serve, in the British Armed Forces.
In 1945, the 8th of May (Victory in Europe Day) and 21st of August (Victory in Japan Day) marked the end of World War II, and this year is seen as the last big occasion to celebrate, remember and express our gratitude to those who sacrificed so much for the freedom that we enjoy today.
