A student treated Compound A with KOH under appropriate
experimental conditions [including workup] and obtained Compounds B and C as products.
After NMR/IR analysis, I got all three Compounds:
-Compound A: 2,5-dimethylbenzaldehyde
-Compound B: 2,5-dimethylbenzoic acid
-Compound C: 2,5-dimethylbenzyl alcohol
Can someone please help me provide a mechanism for the conversion of Compound A to Compound B and Compound C. |
