Book of Acts

I will ask several questions from each  chapter when we get to them..would love to have lots of participation. I do not have the answers to the questions in front of me..as I said this is a Bible study we will all study together to learn from one another.
You may post an answer at anytime..duplicate postings are allowed.
You may even add thoughts to questions not asked.
This is not a debate..it's a study!
May God Bless Us All!

Hi Karla..I am so glad you are enjoying this Bible study..I think more people will join in when they can..Carol is sick this week,,otherwise she would try to be here. But even if its just you and me we will continue..the Lord has something here for all of us..me included! but because I am busy in so many boards and try to help out in other groups too..I can only do a little each day here at the Bible study.

1. My concordance says that this (Acts 2:16-21) that this was the beginning of the last days. That it was God's final act of salvation..which began with the pouring out of His Spirit...and this final act of deliverance will continue to the end of this age. Unquote.
So we are currently still in the last days..in factin fact we are now nearer toward the end than the disciples where on the day of Pentecost. We see many of the signs of the end times too in the world around us. (which is another Bible study).

2. Yes... Karla..the rapture of the church has not happened yet.. but could come anytime. And of course the great tribulation of 7 years will start right after the rapture of the church. I am glad you are ready if the Lord should come Karla..we just never know when that time may be..it behooves us all to be ready at all times..and continue a personal relationship with our precious Lord who gave up His life for us!

Still here:  Peter's Pentecost Address, vs 14-41:

1.  How does the word "prophesy" (v17) relate to vs 1-13?

2.  After Peter preached his powerful message..they were what the scripture (v.37) says; "cut to the heart" ..what does that mean?

3. What did Peter tell them to do in order to be saved? Is that still for us today?

4. What is the promise to you, your children, and to all who are afar off mean..in verse 38?

More next time..I will take a break either Sat. night or Sunday night.

Hi Aalie,

1. prophecy  :  I think that Peter means that the time has come that God will pour  out His Spirit not only upon the Jews, but the Gentiles as well. Not only the sons and daughters of the Jews will prophecy, but the sons and daughters of the gentiles as well.

2.cut to the heart : they became well aware of the fact that something had to change in their lives.

3. Peter told them to repent, to receive baptism in the name of Jesus. It is still for today. If we don't repent, there is no forgiveness of sins.

4. forgiveness of sins, receiving the H.Spirit.

Karla, looking forward to your input.

Good morning eelya!  I'm happy to see you!  And you, too, Aalie!
I think eelya sounds just about right in all her answers.  My answers are pretty much the same.

1.  How does the word "prophesy" (v17) relate to vs 1-13?   I believe that everyone who receives the Holy Spirit will be able to prophesy regardless of sex, age, and rank. I find 1 Corinthians 14:1-5 very interesting about prophesy and also 1 Corinthians 14:22.

2.  After Peter preached his powerful message..they were what the scripture (v.37) says; "cut to the heart" ..what does that mean?  They (the people) believed in Jesus with Peters words and regretted their decision to not believe Him and to also reject and crucify Him.  They wanted to right their wrongs.

3. What did Peter tell them to do in order to be saved? Is that still for us today?  He told them to "repent and be baptized"....."in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."  Yes, it is true for us today because Peter also says "The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off - for all whom the Lord our God will call."

4. What is the promise to you, your children, and to all who are afar off mean..in verse 38?   It means for the people of that time, their future generations, and to everyone all over the world can receive this promise.  If we repent in the name of Jesus our sins are forgiven and we will receive the Holy Spirit.....2 gifts in one!  The promise of the gift of the Holy Spirit is given to all Christians (Romans 8:9-11 and 1 Corinthians 12:13 also verify this).

Remember I am studying this with you..and believe I am on the same level as you are. I am here to learn from you all as well as from the Lord. GBU!

A Vital Church Grows Acts 2: 40-47

1. What did the people do who gladly received Peter's message?

2. How many were added to the church that day?

3. After they were added to the church..what did they do..and why was this so important (V.42)?

5. In verse 43 it says fear came upon every soul and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles..why do you suppose fear came upon them..ans can you think of another passage in the NT where this is pomised by the Lord?

6.In light of the 44 and 45..is today's church doing this..why or why not?

7.Where did they eat (v.46)?

8. How would you explain verse 47?

Hope this is not too many questions..take your time in answering them.

Aalie ~ Your learning right along with us makes it even more exciting!  God bless you hunn!

A Vital Church Grows Acts 2: 40-47

1. What did the people do who gladly received Peter's message?  They were baptized.

2. How many were added to the church that day?  Over 3,000!  Verse 41 says "Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day."  That is so awesome!!!

3. After they were added to the church..what did they do..and why was this so important (V.42)?  "They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer."  They became a church!

5. In verse 43 it says fear came upon every soul and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles..why do you suppose fear came upon them..ans can you think of another passage in the NT where this is pomised by the Lord?  The King James bible states the word fear and the NIV bible states the word awe.  Unfortunately, there aren't any notes for this verse in my bible (strange).  But I'll assume that the people had fear because they were seeing the works of God through the apostles and it was new to them.  Another passage that states this activity is Acts 5:12.

6.In light of the 44 and 45..is today's church doing this..why or why not?  You are speaking about the members of the church sharing their possessions so that the people who did not have anything suddenly had enough.  They shared their worldly goods with each other.  I think some churches today are doing this more than other churches.  I think some people have distanced themselves from the Lord and have become selfish.  Yet there are churches (the Salvation Army comes to mind) who give to the needy and poor of everything they have.  The church is suppose to take care of it's members as if they were family, because in God's eyes they have become family.

7.Where did they eat (v.46)?  In verse 42 my notes say that the breaking of bread meant they shared the Lord's Supper as commanded in Luke 22:19 and also observed in Acts 20:7.  In verse 46 they ate in their homes as part of their daily life, thus separating their temple lives from their home lives.

8. How would you explain verse 47?  Verse 47 states that they were "praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people."  This means that (Romans 14:18) "because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and approved by men."  Then verse 47 states "And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved."  These people were witnessing to others and were drawing in believers!  Daily!  Amazing what Christians can do when they aren't afraid to show to others what God does in their lives.....they become witnesses and draw in more believers!  That is so awesome!

I only like to add one thing:

verse 43: fear came upon them. Can also be seen as "respect".
The fear of the Lord, respecting Him.
Aalie will know this for sure: in old Dutch, when the word "vreze" is used, it mean  : to have respect. It doesn't translate being scared.

Very good Eelya..yes that is what I was looking for in the word fear.  They were not afraid..they had respect for the moving of the Lord's Spirit among them.

Karla..very good! My concordance does not say anything either about the word fear either..and I was really asking the question..because I wanted to know what you all thought about it.

Thank you so much for participating here..I really enjoy this study too.

A Lame Man Healed

Read Acts 3: 1-10

1.  Many feel Jesus healed everyone around Him, yet, Jesus had entered the temple many times. Do you think the crippled man had been there when Jesus entered?

2. If so, why wouldn't Jesus have healed him?

3. How do you feel Peter knew to tell this person to walk?

4. Who does Peter say healed the crippled man?

5. Is there anything else from these verses you would like to share?

1.  Many feel Jesus healed everyone around Him, yet, Jesus had entered the temple many times. Do you think the crippled man had been there when Jesus entered?  Yes, the crippled man had been there.  Verse 2 says "he was put every day to beg..."  According to my map in my bible it shows only one gate in and out of the outer courts of the temple...the gate Beautiful where the crippled man sat and begged.

2. If so, why wouldn't Jesus have healed him?  He probably didn't ask Him!  I'm sure if the crippled man had asked Jesus for healing or money Jesus would have either healed him or spoke with him.

3. How do you feel Peter knew to tell this person to walk?  Because Jesus told him in Acts 1:8 "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you..."  He also said to the crippled man to walk in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth (Acts 3:6).

4. Who does Peter say healed the crippled man?  Oops...I mentioned it in #3.  Jesus Christ of Nazareth (Acts 3:6).

5. Is there anything else from these verses you would like to share?  The crippled man became a witness to other's in the temple of God's work on him.  I love how in verse 10 it says "and they were filled with wonder and amazement..."  How I wish I could be that sort of witness to everyone I meet....to fill them with wonder and amazement at God's works through me!

Hi Karla..in answer to your statement above..God sees your heart and knows how much you desire to be a great witness for Him..I believe you are witnessing already to all those around you..and they see Christ In you..I certainly do here in our group!

If at anytime anyone want to add anything we have already covered partially please feel free to do so..we are here to learn from each other.

Love, Aalie
