I have been using insulin for a while now and sometimes when I inject I feel these hard tissuey lumps. First of all what are they? Is there any way I can get rid of them? Any help would be greatly appreciated. el_olson |

They usually happen when you inject in the exact same spot repeatedly. Try rotating your injection sites with each shot, and making sure you don't inject two different insulins in the same spot (ie. NPH and Humalog). When I get them other times it is from hitting a vein - those ones usually hurt a lot and typically leave one heck of a bruise too, but disappear in a few days. Also check to make sure that your insulin is not outdated or contaminated (if using a pump or syringes with vials especially). I know if my NPH is old it tends to make bumps. Hope this helps, Devin |

hey, i think you should get it checked out, because I've been told thats its quite bad if you start getting lumps at injecting site (not to scare you!) I think it means there is a build up of scar tissue, which leaves a lump, that may stay for a long time! Best advice in mean time is to rotate injection sites, always do a different side of your body, Eg don't do left side twice in a row, go left right left right etc and also try rotating between legs and stomach! (thats what i try and do) hope this helps, keep in touch if you get any other info on this subject because id love to know! jesska |
