Hi My practice nurse said I only needed to check my blood sugar levels once or twice a week as I was following a healthy diet (ww) so I've been doing about 3-4 times week at different times, which has been highish due to my chest infection, which has gone now, as just finished last of antiobiotics. Anyway I did a check at about 23.15, which was 30 mins after I had had my tetracycline, but I was very surprised to find it was my highest ever reading at 12.4, but I wondered if was I had just had my tab, so did another reading about 2.5hrs later about 2.30am and it was down to 9.8, and this morning before brekkie its now down to 8.2. What level should I start panicking over and seeing the practice nurse please? I ve decided to check about 4times today and over the next few days. My normal checks have been between 4-8, though I did get a 10 once straight after food, which fell back to 4 2hrs later |

Johnny~~I worry about health care professionals that give advice about frequency of testing blood glucose (BG) as it is the only way one is to know what foods and activities do to BG. Never test right after eating but wait for at least 2 hours. As far as having a panic attact regarding a BG reading that is too high or low is that if you are below 4 or higher than 13.9, I might worry but not panic or call your practice nurse. If you can determine why it is low or high, then take measures to correct like having OJ or eat something to give the BGs a boost or if high for only one reading, forget it and go on. Only call practice nurse if you are having frequent lows or continuous highs. Traveler100 |

Thanks very much for that info. I won't start panicking then lol. I've just done another check since my 8.2 this morning, and it's down to a respectful 5.9, so I'm a lot happier about it than I was last night. Thanks again John |
