I talked with my daughter this evening and she informed me that she is pregnant. This will be child #4 for her (actually it is pregnancy #5 for her, she lost her first child in the first trimester). She will be 37 in September.
I am not too sure how I feel about it. She has had odd pregnancies each time and the last one (Brooke) was quite scary for all (preeclampsia). Brooke is now 3 years old and a special needs child due to the CP.
Between her age, and the last pregnancy, I asked her if they would be listing her as a high-risk pregnancy and she said her doctor did not see doing that yet. She will be having to have a sonogram each month so the doctor(s) can monitor the baby and the placenta/uterine wall.
She has a great aunt on her father's side that had 2 pregnancies that resulted in a child with Down's Syndrome so I worry about that also; even though Down's Syndrome is not genetic.
Her doctor told her that there is a technician available that can read such problems in the sonogram so there is no reason for her to have amniocentesis unless something is detected during a sonogram...I think that is what I worry about more...the doctor not being concerned considering her past pregnancy history (Bell's Palsey with first born, not enough sodium in body during second child, and the preeclampsia with the last one).
