(( OOC: This is a brief thread branched from "Candles in the Storm".))

The elder blademaster steps outside, pulling his cloak around him a little tighter as the frosty wind whips through his clothing and chills him.  He stands a few dozen feet away from the tavern opening, awaiting the following arrival of his apprentice, Reyco.

((OOC: Coming from Candles in the Storm.))

Reyco turns to his master and walks toward him after he closes the door to the Tavern, looking about for Skeetch.  Reyco's cloak had been discarded before the battle and was still probably somewhere inside the ruins of Lady Starsinger's tower.  It was biting cold outside, but if Reyco felt it, he did not show it in his facial expressions.  As he reaches Malacai, he speaks up inquisitively, "What is it Master?"

The elder blademaster watches Reyco as he approaches, seeing the man has little protection from the outside elements.  With the tons of muscle Reyco had, the wind probably didn't affect him all that badly.  Malacai made no move to give the young warrior one of his warm cloaks.

"I needed to speak with you before this night was over.  It will be morn soon and this is something that cannot wait.  I did not anticipate this great battle and struggle...,"he stops for a second, unsure of how to continue..."your journey here was a test of your prowess, and you've fought bravely these past few days.  Your skills, both physically and mentally, have been sharpened to a fine point.  You still have much to learn, but then again, so do I... Nontheless, drop to one knee, warrior," the elder warrior commands.  When Reyco obeys, he continues; "today, unbeknownst to yourself, is your 21st birthday.  Perhaps you had forgotten, and you would have it believed it was your 20th, but your 'knowledge' of your age was incorrect.  The wizard we visited in Galharth helped me know for sure.  With these past days as your passing rite into manhood, you also enter into a new stage of your Blademaster training..that is, the end of it.  Reyco Asdwon, I hereby lift you of your apprentice status and proclaim you a Master of the Blade. You serve me no more; you are now subserviant only to the Blade and the Blademaster ways.  You are to consider me an equal, a warrior, a comrade.  You shall no longer refer to me as Master, simply Malacai.  You may choose your own path or continue to join me; together, as brothers; equals.  I apologize for the situation and environment, but it could not wait any longer.  You may rise, young Blademaster," he finally finishes.  The soft gel of Malacai's eyes seemed a bit moist, difficult to tell in this temperature, although the elder warrior hoped it wouldn't freeze in its place.  This had been a long time coming for the young warrior...Malacai had hoped for something a little more noble and honorable, but given the situation there wasn't much he could do.  Nontheless, he knew Reyco would be ecstatic and he looked to the young, fresh Blademaster for his intial reactions.  Malacai actually had a warm smile on his face.

Reyco is confused when Malacai asks him to drop to a knee, and at what follows, surprise is evident in the young man's eyes.  He was a blademaster now.  He had been an apprentice for so long that he had almost forgotten that one day he would be a master in his own right, and that day had come.  As he stands from being proclaimed a master, he offers his hand right hand for a warrior's embrace.  "No apologies are needed... Malacai." the name felt odd on his lips, using it in such familiar fashion.  The only time he had used it since becoming Malacai's apprentice was on the rare occasion that he had wanted so much to piss the older master off that he was willing to take a beating for it.  Well, that tactic was out the door now.  "We will celebrate and discuss this more when we have the opportunity...  And you should know me well enough by now to know I would never choose a path where we wouldn't have each other to rely on unless I had no other choice."

He shakes his head in amazement once more as he smiles, the idea of being a master still in his mind.  He couldn't think on it now though, there were more important things at hand than his title, so the blademaster turns to look at Skeetch.  "I know it would be hard to control him, but I fear that if one of us doesn't take on that responsibility then it will go to the new one that just arrived, who I obviously don't trust yet, or to Amagato, and he's got a lot more on his plate at the moment.  If we could exchange some of this platinum," Reyco pats the somewhat full pouch on his belt, "for some jewels, I think we can use them as incentive.  If he really wants shinnies as much as it seems he does and we show him the only way to gain them will be to work with us, I think he could be a powerful ally, as Amagato says."  Reyco chuckles to himself then continues, "We could also make it part of our deal with the Weremacht that when this is all over, Skeetch gets a dual to the death with Tet.  He seemed quite obsessed with killing that dragon."

Malacai grips Reyco's arm in a warrior's embrace and brings the boy...no, the man...close to him.  It wasn't a hug, but more a sign and symbol of their strong bond. The young man was quick back to business though, strange for Reyco...but then again, he was maturing quickly.

"Trying to control something like that...thing...could prove fatally dangerous.  One slip and your life could be over.  If the newcomer wants responsibility of that monster, I say give it to him.  He's biting off more than he can chew, I'm betting.  Although with his seeming necromancy, he'll be better equipped to stop the troll should anything devastating happen.  I'd rather have you side-by-side with me, blade drawn...than worrying about a glibbering green shitface like him," he says, looking up to where the insane troll was probably making threats at the snowflakes, telling them about eating innards and tasting hearts and whatnot,"the choice is yours to make.  Come, let us return to the others, in case that guest elf decides to get fancy.  Keep one hand on your pommel and be ready to act at any mom....er....do what you want," the elder warrior stutters.  He already caught himself commanding Reyco...something he had to stop immediately.  Especially around others.

The Blademaster nods to Reyco with a smile again, and a clap on the back, as he makes his way inside the Twisted Root Tavern again.

Reyco listens to Malacai's concerns then nods.  "Alright, we'll let the new one or Amagato control him for now.  I still think we should try to get it into the agreement with Weremacht that Skeetch gets to face the dragon, it might get him to look upon all of us more as allies.  I'd also like to get a few gems and offer them in friendship... Couldn't hurt."  Reyco wasn't one to think money and material possessions as anything but tools.  If he could use some of the money he carried to gain an ally as powerful as Skeetch, he would do it.

As they walk back into the tavern, Reyco smiles as Malacai catches himself commanding him again.  Both of them would have to get used to their new roles with respect to one another.
