Im looking for information on my great-great grandparents...James Benham and his wife, Francis Caroline Rachel Currell.  James was born 1835 and Francis, in 1836.  They married in England in 1863.  They came to Canada and settled in Beaverton Ontario in 1869 from Kent, England, with 4 children, and had 4 more in Canada.  One of the 4 born here was my great grandmother, Jane Sarah.

Hi Cindy

This is Kay and I will be helping to search for your ancestors.

Firstly I've checked to see what children I can find for James Benham and Frances Currell.  Here is what I've found:

1. ALICE BENHAM - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Christening: 14 JUN 1871 Saint Paul, Deptford, Kent, England
<INPUT onclick=onClickRecord(this) type=checkbox value="500037770358*2*FRANCES JANE BENHAM*Gender: Female Christening: 17 JUL 1864 Saint Paul, Deptford, Kent, England" name=r1-2> 2. FRANCES JANE BENHAM - International Genealogical Index

Gender: Female Birth: 28 MAR 1874 Thorah Twp, Ontario, Ontario

(Apologies for the layout of the above).  We can see five of their children from this.

Then I have searched further for James Benham's birth and found this record:

There are two churches I have found in Frindsbury, Kent.  One is St Philip & St James but wasn't built until 1878 so we can exclude this as being the place of Thomas Benham & Keturah Town's marriage.  However, the other is All Saints where the original registers date back to 1669 so I imagine we can (reasonably safely) assume this to be the correct church:

Hope this is of interest.

I've been looking for entries on the censuses for George and Susan Currell but so far to no avail.  However, I've checked death records and come up, so far with this:

Deaths Mar 1851   (97%)
CURRELL  Susan Charlotte    Greenwich  5 14[38]  Scan available - click to view
CURRELL  Susan Charlotte    Greenwich  5 148  Scan available - click to view

and

Deaths Sep 1864   (>99%)
CURRELL  George Henry    Greenwich  1d 387

Searching for Susan Charlotte Whatman's birth the only record I'm coming up with this is one:

SUSAN CHARLOTTE WHATMAN Pedigree
  Female

Event(s):
Birth:
Christening:
13 JUL 1801   Wimbledon, Surrey, England
Death:
Burial:

Parents:
  Father:  ROGER WHATMAN Family
  Mother:  JANE

Therefore the only marriage record I could find for Roger Whatman and Jane was as follows, showing a maiden name of Webb:

ROGER WHATMAN Pedigree
  Male   Family

Event(s):
Birth:
Christening:
Death:
Burial:

Marriages:
  Spouse:  JANE WEBB Family
  Marriage:
1794   St Georges Hanover Sq, Westminster, London, England

Checking out St George, Hanover Square I have found this, which you will probably be interested to see.  The church was built 1721-1724.

The only Roger Whatman I could find in birth records would be the correct one because we have Jane Webb as his spouse is:

ROGER WHATMAN Pedigree
  Male   Family

Event(s):
Birth:
About 1772   Of, London, London, England
Christening:
Death:
Burial:

Marriages:
  Spouse:  JANE WEBB Family
  Marriage:
1794

It doesn't give a huge amount of information but it's an indication for us.

I was just wondering if you've had chance to browse through the things I've found for you on your Benham ancestor?  If so, has it been of any help to you??
