Hello fellow members. I'm not sure how far back you can do research for but I would like to find out as much information as I can about the following family: Thomas BEAN, who was the son of Thomas BEANE, was baptised on Tuesday 18th August 1711 at St Mary’s Church, Portsea. He became a blacksmith and married Elizabeth PITT on either12 or 20 May 1734 in St. Mary's, South Hayling, Hampshire. Elizabeth, who had been baptised at Portsea on 24 December 1716, was the daughter of Thomas PITT and Frances MEDSTONE. During the following 23 years Thomas and Elizabeth had 13 children, all with their births or baptisms recorded on Hayling. Thomas BEAN died in October 1761 and was buried on 11 October 1761. His wife, Elizabeth BEAN, I believe died just a few weeks before her husband circa 31 August 1761.She was buried on 31 August 1761 in South Hayling, Hampshire Thank you in advance for your help. There seem to be a lot of Thomas Beens surrounding the dates you are looking at and I'm feeling that "your" Thomas and his father, grandfather, etc were all Thomas also! So far I'm yet to find a mother or grandmother - but I will keep looking. Meanwhile, do you want the siblings I've found for him, or do you already have this information? Kay Manager |

Hi Kay Information on his siblings would be great! I only have information on him, some on his wife, Elizabeth, and some information on his children. I know he had a son, also named Thomas: Thomas Bean Baptised: 4 March 1738 at North Hayling Married: 22 July 1762 to Mary Jacobs at South Hayling.
I have information that one Thomas Bean was a clock maker at Hayling, but i'm unsure which one it was, or if it was a family business/trade. I have also been informed that a Thomas Bean was a member of Captain Cook’s crew on his third journey (12-7-1776 to 4-10-1780) to the Pacific Ocean and that he brought back to Englanda spear that was thrown into the boat when Captain Cook was killed by natives in the Hawaiian Islands. The spear now bears the note, "thrown into the boat when Captain Cook was murdered, brought to England by Thomas Bean, whose wife was nurse to Thomas Green, and gave it to her Master". Again, I'm not sure if this is one of 'my' Thomas Beans or not. Thank you for your help, and your time. Lyn | |

Well you never know Lyn - something might show up as we go through our searching and if I do find anything on that spear (!) I'll certainly post it for you. Meanwhile I'll set to and post you some information on the "Bean" siblings. Kay Manager |

Here are the siblings of Thomas (children of Thomas Bean & Elizabeth Pitt): ANN BEAN christened 28.6.1736 North Hayling MARTHA BEAN christened 24.10.1742 South Hayling SARAH BEAN christened 1743 South Hayling RICHARD BEAN christened 3.4.1748 North Hayling MARY ELIZABETH ANN BEAN christened 3.2.1752 North Hayling JOSEPH BEAN christened 1754 North Hayling JOSEPH BEAN christened 1756 South Hayling With the last two children both being Joseph - bear in mind the fact in those days it wasn't uncommon for children to die and later offspring named after them. There were also four other children I found with parents Thomas Bean and Elizabeth (but no mention of the mother's surname): JOHN BEAN christened 26.9.1740 North Hayling WILLIAM BEAN christened 8.3.1746 North Hayling JAMES THOMAS JOHN BEAN christened 15.4.1753 North Hayling STEPHEN BEAN christened 31.12.1757 North Hayling - died 19.1.1858 Would you like me to see if I can find any marriages for any of the above? For the other siblings it's been rather disappointing. Whilst there are marriages listed for some of them, they haven't been on Hayling Island and therefore difficult to know if these are the correct lines to follow. I'm happy to list what I've found, albeit, elsehwere in Hampshire. Do let me know if you'd like that information. Kay Manager |

Hi Kyleandrew1! It's nice to make contact with a fellow Bean descendant :) I do already have a fair bit of information about JTJ Bean and his family here in Australia, but it would be interesting to see if you have the same or different information. Which line of the Bean family do you follow? Thanks Lyn |

Hi Kay Thank you so much for the marriage information you have found. If you could give me the information you found on the others it would be appreciated, only if not too much trouble. It may give me a lead elsewhere, even if they don't end up being the right ones. The only marriage that i'm sure of is the one for James Thomas John Bean, as he is my direct ancestor and i've sourced most information about him from Australian records since he immigrated here in the late 1700's. He was married in London in 1780. Maybe some of his other siblings did the same? Any more information you could give would be apprecitated. I am also keen to get more information about the father, Thomas Bean, and any of his siblings, parents etc. I know it's along shot as it's going so far back to early 1700's... Thanks again so much for your help. :) Lyn |

Hello Lyn-as I said its not a direct line with our lot but the connection is Rosetta James(daughter of Samuel James and Ann Bean) who married Simon Moulds-one of increasingly more cousins. I think all the early families are linked to each other-often more than once. You can contact me on [email protected] if you would like what I have-Kylandrew1 |
