Kozzie - Going back to 1851, I have found Joseph with HIS parents, William and Esther.

Living in Are Street, Barking, Essex.

Esther Briggs  57  Wife  born c1794
Joseph Briggs  17  Son   Blacksmith  born c1834

 

 

Esther age 40 is living with Mary age 20, Eliza age 15 (both listed as servants) and Joseph age 8.  Perhaps her husband was away fishing that night.  There are a few other fishermen's wives on the same page.  It says that Esther was not born in the county of Essex.
