Hi! I am trying, rather late in my years to establish a family tree to leave for my daughter. Thanks to the help of a relative on my mothers side I am able to go back 200 years [1806] on the maternal branch. However, I have hit a solid brick wall on my fathers side, I have been unable to find out where he was born, let alone any relations. One of my two sisters has told me that our mother told her he was born in Ireland, but what part or even if it is true I have no idea, but I have scanned the English records that are on line without any joy. According to his death records he died in the Bracknell district of Berkshire in the July/September quarter 1977. [My parents were separated, we didn't know about his demise] They were married at Eton Berkshire in the April/June quarter in 1934, [I was born in June of that year??] We lived in Berkshire all my young life, but we did move around a lot, he worked on farms as a carter but couldn't seem to settle. The death list shows his birthdate as 17. November 1899, but I have no other confirmation of this date. The only relative I ever heard him talk about was an Aunt Kitty [mine, not his] who lived in Tombridge Wells Kent, but we never met or heard from anyone on his side of the family. The only other thing I do know is that he served in the British Army [WWII] and was wounded in his side. I believe his regiment was the Royal Horse Artillary, and I think he also served in India for some time, going by his birth date that would obviously be after the war.
Apologies for being so vague, but that is all I know about him, and I would appreciate any help that I can get. I don't mind doing the work, if someone can point me in the right direction

Many many thanks Arty717

Whew! You guys are on the ball, I didn't expect so much action straight away, methinks I've hit on the right aid source. Mind you, you have made a rod for your own back, because what to you do for an encore??
I don't know if Aunt Kitty was married, so no idea if she was a Curtis or not, as the case may be. Good idea about the military records, obviously if |I can get his next of kin that would be a good starting point, so I think I'll bite the bullit and splash out the search fee.
Thanks for the help, it is very much appreciated.
Best wishes Arty717

Hi Arty it may sound Expensive,But usually Worthwhile. Its Not Unusal That a lot of Records Are not found .But Usually these Military Records throw up so much info.
It enable You to check further Afield.
The reason i Checked India Office in case he was born there,Would not be the first.
If we had a County to go on in Ireland it would help.

Yes Mike, I can appreciate that a county would help, but alas, as I pointed out, I am not even sure if he was born there [Ireland]. However, I will try the military angle, and hopefully get back to you later.
Once again, thanks for the interest, it has spurred me on.

Hi Mike! Took your advice and contacted the Army Historical Disclosures Section, have now recieved a reply - bags of forms to fill in. I presume it will be a lengthy process, but will put the wheels in motion and keep you posted.

Many many thanks

Hi Mike!
Just to let you know I am still around, have sent off forms to the Army Historical Disclosures Section, had a letter back saying that due to an increase in family welfare requests it could be four months before I hear anything. Obviously one can understand their priority screening makes sense, so I will sit tight and wait patiently. If you have any other angles that might bring results I would like to know.
Best wishes
