I am researching my grandfathers family and his great grand mother, Catherine Cummings, (that's the spelling I have for the surname but I realize that it could have been Cummins), came to Australia in 1834 on the ship the 'Canton' on the ship with her was a Mary Cummings. All I have on her is that she boarded the ship in Cork Ireland. On the passenger list i have for her first name is spelt as 'Cathlen'. Other information i have for her is,
"1834 CANTON to NSW including some House of Industry Girls." Some where in my records her age was listed as 15 when she arrived in Australia but I haven't confirmed that.
Once in Australia her records show that the 'G' was dropped from her last name.
She married Edmund Nye in 1837 in Sydney Australia.

I hope that's enough information for someone to help me find more about Catherine Cummings.
If any more information require please let me know.

Anne

Hi Mike
thanks for this information, can't thank u enough.

I do have records for Edmund and Catherine in Aust that was the easy part.

Except for now the prob of who was Edmund Nye.
I've been looking at Edmund Nye born in 1811 in Ferring Sussex England. (have his siblings and parents from searching on the net and others helping me) but now I have found that someone else has been looking into him and have a different guy.
They have Henry Edmond Nye born in 1810 in Liverpool Lancashire England. I have tried searching for this one but haven't found anything on him.

Edmund Nye came to Australia as a convict in 1829 on the 'Lady Feversham'. I have these records but find them hard to understand.
Just wondering if you would have somewhere where i could check up on the other Henry Edmond Nye.

I have emailed the people who have this line but haven't heard from them.

Thanks a heaps
Anne

I found the registration you mentioned On Edmund Nye Ferring Sussex if that one is your Edmund he would have been 18 yrs old .
The only way you will find Him is via his trial. If he was from Sussex he would have been Tried at Hove ASSIZES.
a friend had a similar problem with Jones Family from Sussex. We found the Names ok But could not find Trial records

Thanks Mike but i have already been in touch with this guy, and I must say he was quick in relying too.

Mike I spent about an hour last nite going though ancestry.com and LDS site again and now know why I was looking at the guy I have. The guy the others have actually married in England, so really can't see it being him. There was no one else other than the Edmund Nye that i have that fitted the bill.
I must admit that I haven't done much of a search for other spellings but when I do my searches I don't have exact match ticked so it should bring up other names as well.

I also found a site for Cummins but when i went to email them both emails came back. I couldn't see any names in there that fitted the birth/christening yrs of Mary and Catherine.

Thanks for your help. At the moment I mite just stick with my Edmund Nye but leaving my options open to be lead up the garden path.

Anne
