Hi

I have traced my Kane family tree back to Patrick Kane married to Sahra Conroy born c1870 Ireland. I found their names on their son Martin Kane's death certificate. I have some Scotish census records stating that Martin and his wife Hannah or Honor Price(Pryce or Bryce) were born in Ireland but have no information on what county. In the records I have Martins dob ranges from 1801-1811 and Hannah's 1808-1837. Martin's death record also states that his first wife was Bridget McDonnel I can't find a marriage for them in Scotland so assume they were married in Ireland or have another name spelling I've not tried. I have search numerous websites trying to trace where in Ireland they came from but found nothing.

Thanks

Alison

Oh well that is interesting Alison.  I'll take a look at that myself and see if anything is obvious on that one.

Hi Kay,

Hope you can read those records better than me, thats the first census record I've seen that doesn't just say Ireland, I think that this maybe Martins mother and sister and if you can make out the county would you please check for any of my names there, marriage or births.

Thank you

Thanks for your e-mails Alison.  I've printed off the images you sent me and will have a good look.  Of course, I will check for you the births/marriages, etc - no problem.

Check back to see if I've found anything for you.

Well the spelling of the place in Ireland you're wondering about looks like BALLANAH - but this place appears to be in Syria!!!!!!  Having looked further at place names in Ireland I've found BALLINAGH, a village in County Cavan.  Here is a picture that I found:

Ballanagh, from the south along the N55

I will dig further to see if anything clearer becomes apparent.

I've found a possible for John Kane.  Doesn't show anything about parents but there is a spouse, if that's any good.  Of course, we can't be 100% certain we have the right John Kane but the fact he's from Scotland is an indicator.  See what you think:

On the basis of the above record I've found this entry in the 1861 census which shows John as being born in Paisley, Renfrewshire.  On the 1851 it was recorded as Pauliey - the script was dreadful and I feel it was mistranscribed.

Now Alison, in the 1861 census Agnes is recorded as being born in Ireland but I've checked to see if there were any births of Agnes Sherkie - but nothing.

However, I found the following which I think is the correct one.  What's your opinion?

Can find no mention of Sarah Kane on any census after the 1851 where she is listed with son John.  However, she must be around somewhere, again possibly mis-transcribed but I did find the following death record which would indicate she was married to another John Kane.  I'm putting a question mark on this though as Martin would have been her first son (we think) and back then as we all know, the eldest son often was named after the father.  However, I thought it worth a mention:

I think we may have found Martin's parents here Alison -

CHARLES CAIN Pedigree
  Male   Family

Event(s):
Birth:
Christening:
Death:
Burial:

Marriages:
  Spouse:  SARAH MCGLAGHLAIN Family
  Marriage:
21 MAR 1812   Abbey (Paisley), Renfrew, Scotland

Going on the information that Charles was head of the household in the above 1841 census and Sarah the wife, I'd say we have the correct parents here.

Hi Kay,

Thank you for all you hard work, The picture is great, all the names are good as they do tend to choose the same name generation after generation exept for susan, charles and Helen and that sujests that they are all related. Was wondering if the name Conner could be varient of Conroy. I will see what else I can get on these names on scotlands people and try and fit them in with tree.

Pleased if any of the above has helped Alison.  I will hold fire for now as you've plenty to wade through here.  However, please let me know further as and when you'd like more help.
