I am trying to trace a Frederick Laugharne.
He married Mary Ann (e) Walmlsey in Liverpool in 1882--they were both born  c 1860.
I have lost them after their marriage--they don't seem to appear on a census form.
If any body has any suggestions as to how I can trace them, I would be very grateful--thank you--Eileen

Thank you for this Fran,

I'll follow this through. I am trying to find a connection with my late husband's family as his mother had this and the Walmsley certs but only found out after she died!!
I appreciate your work on this--watch this space!
Thank you--Eileen

Hi Fran--thank you again for your trouble.I found the death that you that you told me about but haven't followed it through yet.
I have the marriage cert-- the original one and have the info on the 1881 census that Mary Ann Walmlsey was 20 (which adds up with the marriag cer) and that she is a cigar maker.
I have been trying to find Frederick on the 1881 census in England but think I need to try Wales --because of his name--or even look in Devon--as that is where a Mary A Laugharne died.
I appreciate yuor support in this--Eileen

Fran--you're a star! Thank you so much for this--I have tried to trace Fred's birth & his father's marriage without success--I'd just about reached the "I give up stage"!! I really feel --I was just going to say "enheartened" but there isn't such a word--well--there is now!
I can now look up census forms with better info--I really do appreciate  this--and that you have kept at it!
Thank you--Eileen

As a follow up to this. Charles was the brother of "my" Frederick's father--there are 2 Freds  4 years apart in age.--which is new info for me-and I have been able to trace quite a bit from what you gave me--I have also followed up Charles' marriage & his wife's background which again, has been of help --so--again--thank you--I am grateful for your help in this
Eileen

yes--I do have access to Ancestry (co uk) Fran. As you say there do seem to be a lot of Laugharnes but with odd spellings! It was on there that I was able to follow the leads that you gave me. Thank you--I will ask if I get stuck again--I appreciate that offer.

I was set off on this trail because I was given some certificates after my mother in law died. We hadn;t known they existed. These went back from the Kirby Lonsdale area --(not too far from where I now live )- in 1760 up to  the marriage of "my" Fred Laugharne in 1882.
The next to last one was my late husband's grandfather's birth cert followed by his son's marriage --my father in law---but there--so far--is no apparent connection between those 2  & the others. I have traced my husband's family on both sides back quite a bit.The rest--after a good deal of searching all add up to each other!!
I certainly have enough to keep me busy!--and I'm working on my family trees too!!
Again--I appreciate yuor help & hard work Fran.
Thank you--Eileen

Well Fran--just over 2 months down the line and I have sorted out the connection between all the birth and marriage certs!
I have discovered that the Laugharnes aren't related to us but that Frederick Laugharne's wife--presumably by now widow! married my husband's grandfather Charles Smith in 1889. Fred & Mary  had a daughter Elizabeth who was on the 1901 census as "daughter" to Charles but married as Eliz Laugharne a couple of years later.
Mary Ann nee Walsmley (& later Laugharne) was my father in law Thomas Henry Smith & his older brother Benjamin's  mother.
I have now connected my late  husband through his paternal grandma (Mary Ann nee Walmsley) back to the Kirby Lonsdale area in 1645 and all the certs I have as far as the 1700s now add up. I got my last confirmation last week!

Although Fred & parents  aren't directly connected--after all your hard work! --I would like to thank you for your help as some of your suggestions etc either gave me clues or confirmation.
I am still looking for Fred Laugharne's death which may have been at sea.

I expect by now you will be heading for a darkened room complete with aspirins--it is a bit complicated!

I have extra complications because when Benjamin Smith  died in WW1 in 1917 his mother was listed as Mary Moore  Smith  so presumably Mary Ann died & Charles Smith remarried!!
Families!!
Thank yuo for all yuor time, help & support--I do appreciate it
Eileen
