Greetings,

When joining a group, one always wonders, ‘how much should I say??I decided to say it all. I hope you don’t mind. (I listed my questions at the end).

I am in search of information about my great, great grandfather James MORRISON of Derryhale, Kilmore Parish, County Armagh. I have found his name in an index to Griffiths?Valuation but have not yet seen the full entry. I do not yet know his wife’s name and do not expect it to be in Griffiths?

One of his sons, Thomas, my great grandfather, was born about 1841 and married the widow, Elizabeth (MAY) VAUGHAN of Drumlellum on 7 Feb 1867. prob. in Drumcee. They had eight children: Margaret (b. 8 Dec 1867 d. 30 Nov 1950); James (b.1 Feb 1869) my grandfather; George (b.16 Apr 1871); Thomas (b. 8 Dec 1873); William (b. 26 July 1875); Minnie (b. 16 Dec 1877); Richard (b. 12 May 1882); Robert (b.12 May 1885).

Margaret married William John Wright (1864-1916) and she is buried in Mullavilly Parish Cemetery in Tandragee with her husband, her daughter and her husband’s parents.

Thomas, a widower when he died on 10 March 1919, and is also buried in Mullavilly Parish. I have not yet been able to confirm if Elizabeth is buried there. I wonder if she might have died in child birth in 1885.

James, my grandfather, (b.1 Feb 1869 d. 19 May 1948, Milford, MA) arrived in the U.S. with his wife of two weeks, Sarah (JACKSON) of Lisavague, Kilmore Parish on 12 Oct 1903. James, and his brother, William may have been the only two of Thomas & Elizabeth’s children who came to the U.S. My father mentioned only Portadown as the place of origin for his father.

Sarah’s parents were Thomas & Sarah (PATTERSON) JACKSON. Their children were Elizabeth (1870); Ann Jane (1872); Robert (1874); Sarah (1878); Thomas (1882); Samuel (1883). Robert, Sam and possibly Thomas Jr., came to the U.S. The only Thomas Jackson in Kilmore Parish in the Griffiths?index is in Mullalelish but three non-Thomas?can be found in Lisavague. I have no further information about Thomas and Sarah Jackson aside from the location of County Armagh.

My questions would be these:

I haven’t been able to locate the full text Griffiths?Valuation on-line. Have I just missed it or do I need to get it through LDS?

After I see the entry in Griffiths?for James Morrison, what would be my next step to find James?wife & children (besides Thomas)?

I have sent to PRONI for a death certificate for Elizabeth (May) (Vaughan) Morrison for 1885. If she did not die that year in child birth, how do I proceed to find her date of death? There is neither a MAY nor a VAUGHAN family tree on Ancestry.com that includes Elizabeth.

Of the Morrison’s who probably stayed in Ireland, how do I begin to search them out. I know their names, dates of birth, parents, townland & county.

Thanks,

Richard Morrison

Richard with reply to your Questions

Full text Of Griffiths Should be available via Proni,But may not indicate family.Just land, you could also try the tithe records.Slaters directories.or Piggots. As they may hold clues another source is Caora. But  your best bet,is via churches. As most Births Marriages would be registered Also Deaths. Most records Held at proni.
Lds
You can Obtain Birth Death Marriage Certificates from them.If you leave Jelora a Message About. How to Obtain them.Im almost certain she will explain to you

Hi again Richard,I have just read your Emails Ref IGI.What i will do is explain how you will be able to find for yourself on there. Its a time saver
Go to Igi to INTERNATIONAL GENEALOGICAL INDEX.3rd one down
on the right hand side, you will see where you add parents.Father then Mother
Type in the NAMES say for instance John Morrison then Wifes name. Then Add Region. SAY Armagh.Dont put any Children.on the left.Just click search.
It then does a parent check.
It will list all family with John say elizabeth as wifes family.if you add the surname.of wife sometimes it does not find.So just add her first name.
Most people use IGI and spend hours searching through there database.not sure if correct family.
Its a little tip that was showed me by a friend some years back. And really is a usefull way of searching IGI.

Well Richard i really hope this helps you. Please let me know how you get on using it.
I hope that by using this system you can find many more Morrisons.
We are still here for any help you want .Please leave any messages you would like checked
