Hi Everyone
Hoping you can help me to find information on RICHARD NORRIS from around Dublin, Ireland. He was transported to Australia from Cork in 1799 arriving here in 1800 on the ship Minevia. I know nothing of his life before arriving here and hoping you can help. I am unable to state the parish but believe his family were farmers. I am unable to find out why he was sent here or his court documents and charges.
Thank you for your time
Lorraine Cole

I had great success when using the NLI (National Library of Ireland, Dublin)
newspaper archives for this period. This may require a visit or to hire a
local individual, most papers are now on microfilm, I was lucky enough to
have handled original papers, just prior to the microfilm copy process.
I actually had my ancestors police interrogation responses recorded
verbatim, and later trial all in print, transported purely by association
with a criminal Feb 1816.
If you can identify Richard Norris' County of Origin, you could investigate
local county papers for that area, for the following regular articles
'Commissioners Intelligence'.
Many trials where conducted in larger centres such as Cork or Dublin, given
it's political then Dublin is more likely. In which case I can probably dig
out Dublin papers in circulation for the period 1800.
Regards

He lists some newspapers that may hold info on his Trial
I noticed the NLI have a downloadable PDF file detailing all Micrfolm copies
for sale for sale for 70 euro, or it looks like you can requiest a new scan
of existing hard copy newespapers for 150 euro. (Who said Familiy history
research was cheap)
Warning: With these collections do not expect every day to be on the reels,
they have not gotevery issue themselves, so don't get your hopes up just
yet.
I have copied the Dunblin related Microfilm (as detailed April 2008)
The list below uses the following format:

Hi Lorraine im sorry its not more, there was a lack of Records on a lot of the Irish Agitators.Kew in london have all the info on these guys.
My suggestion is to contact the Library in Australia,Where the trial records are.
There was one site that suggested he was born in Cork. But without the proof we are looking at anywhere.
If we can find any more we will definately add.

Hi Lorraine i have been in touch with the National Library in Dublin. They Dont hold Any Info On Richard. But these are two of there Suggestions.I have Checked Dublin Heritage his Name is not listed

Mike

hank you for your e-mail.
You could check for his baptism in parish records online at www.dublinheritage.ie If
you cannot find him via electronic records, you will probably need to look at
microfilmed or original parish records. Roman Catholic records are held in the
National Library of Ireland www.nli.ie Some Church of Ireland records are held in
the National Archives of Ireland www.nationalarchives.ie and some in the
Representative Church Body Library
http://www.ireland.anglican.org/index.php?do=about&id=42

You could also try looking at newspapers online. This website has the Freeman's
Journal http://www.irishnewsarchive.com/ while this site is for the Irish Times
www.irishtimes.com They are subscription websites.

Mike,   Some people just copy info posted by others without checking.  Someone else had posted that the ship left from Cork but all the official records here have Richard Norris being born in Dublin although the date varies by a couple of years.
