Hello, I am searching the Abraham Steele family of TN and Buncombe, NC. Abraham b 1799 in Blount County, TN, and his son, John Wesley Steele, b 1821 in Buncombe, NC.

Nancy McDaniel b Buncombe, NC, is my gg-grandmother, and died after 1860.
Abraham my gg-grandfather died after 1860 also.

Our ancestors left Scotland and England back in early 1800's. However we do not have the origination cities of each place.

If anyone has any Steele info, regardless of the city, please forward on to me, it could prove to be of interest.

I am at the old proverbial stone wall, and can go no further. I would appreciate any data out there.

Thanks and have a great day.

Hi Betty..
Sorry for the delay in answering your post.
I've been in contact for most of the day with  our Steel(e) cousins.
Sad to say we have been neglectful with our record keeping, since we couldn't place the ancestors of Lemuel STEEL(E) outside of Ohio, mainly  Fairfield and Logan Counties. Some of the family migrated to the western counties of Williams and Paulding, Ohio. Later a branch from Paulding moved to Midland County, Michigan abt.1900
We've determined that he is not from the New Enland branch of John and George Steele, although there  is a Lemuel  Sr. and his son Lemuel in that line of descent.

One of the cousins had been told that the family was of Scot-Irish  descent and  lived in  Virginia..later  to become West Virginia but this is only oral history and nothing to prove the  statement.
I've looked over your group message board with databases and as yet can't find a connection.
One of the cousins lives in Alsaka and I've been told that he is looking through ship manifests trying to find any thing that might link the families together.  Nothing so far.
If anything turns  up in our research  that will be of help to you, I'll be posting to the  board.
One thing of note... this was written to me this evening:
Lewis Steel b.1865 married Anna (Hines) Toomey, daughter of John Toomey and Margaret Hines, both of Ireland. They married in Canada and moved to the US around the time that Anna was born. Both are buried in Paulding County in Junction.

Take care,

jelora aka Carole Jean
