 I have an enquiry regarding Edith Mary Lewis' husband. I have some information about him. His name is William Edward HOLMES born 6th June1868 at 143 Broad Street, Pendleton ,England.  He was a farmer in Manchester . He was accidently killed on board SS Haimon 21st December 1922.  His father was William Holmes.  Mother Sarah Ann (nee Heywood). Siblings Annie, Florence, Ernest,Sarah ann, Clara, George Christmas.

Marion - I have started checking for William Edward on the censuses:
 
1881 Census of England

Living at 204 Soho Road, Handsworth, Staffordshire
 
William Holmes  41  Head - Merchant in Haberdashery - b Eccleshill, Yorkshire c1840
Sarah Ann Holmes  40  Wife - b c1841
Children:
Annie  14 
William E.  12  (wrongly transcribed William G.)
Sarah Ann  10
Clara E.  8
Florence  6
George C.  5
Ernest  3
 
All the children born Manchester.
 
Back in 1871 they were living at 143 Broad St, Pendleton.  William was a Draper.  Sarah Ann his wife was 30 and born Manchester.  They had an older daughter Mary Agnes (born c1865) age 6, Annie 4, William Edward 2, Sarah Ann 2 months, and also William's sister Eliz. Turner age 29 born c1842 was living there.  They also had a domestic servant Sarah Ann O'Donnell age 18 born Belfast, Ireland.

In 1891 the family are living at 7a Bland Street, Moss Side
 
William Holmes 51 is now a Commercial Traveller, and it says he was born Bradford.
Sarah A. H. Holmes his wife is 50.
Daughters Annie 24, Sarah A. age 20 and Clara E. age 18 are all Shop Assistants.
Florence age 16 is a Clerk and Typewriter (typist). George C. 15 and Ernest 13 are both Commercial Clerks.
 
In 1901 Sarah Ann Junior age 30 is living at 12 Russell Avenue, Withington as head of household, with Clara E. assistant at drapers, Florence shorthand typist and George C. is working as a Clerk to an Iron Merchant.
