Hi Harry,
Welcome to our Group..

I recently found Alfred James Watters and his wife Mary Ann Smyth's arrival into the Port of Philadelphia on S. S. Pennland April 1900.

Both had residence in Ireland as :Dublin

They gave the address of Samuel Smith,New York City as US contact, whose relationship was noted as brother-in-law.
1900 census New York
Samuel Smith arrived 1899 staying with relatives Eugene and Emily Parker, relationship noted as nephew.

I was unable to find the family of Watters in the USA but did find the Parker family living in Brooklyn, New York.

3. Ship manifest gives Dublin as place of origin in Ireland

4. First-born son is named Thomas.. perhaps after Alfred's father?

5. Mary Ann returned to Ireland since in September 1918, Alfred gives this as his wife's residence.
Did she and children return to USA?

6. Do you have death certificate of Alfred James from New York City?

I will continue to do research in the USA, for you, Harry ,and the other managers, Mike, Marian , Fran and Kay will be helping on the other side of The Pond..

Hi Harry..

I've been going over census information and can't seem to find Alfred nor Mary Ann in the 1920 nor 1930 census.

Since, you had mentioned that Alfred died in New York and didn't specify New York City, I've taken a different approach and started looking for ship manifests prior to 1954.

I've found a James Watters sailing from Queenstown, Ireland 31 October 1930 on the S. S. George Washington

Arrived N.Y. 07 Nov 1930

Age 54... boatmaker, Irish , Ireland born.. Anyart.....last residence Ireland.. Derrycreany ,Co. Monahan..

Brother: Patrick Watters ..same address..

Destination: Cornwall on the Hudson, New York

Question: ever in US ..his answer Yes.. but nothing after that...

Relative: Daughter
Mrs. A Brett
1st St. Cornwall on the Hudson, New York

He has a deformity of his left leg___ duration of 50 years.

Would this be a match to Alfred James?
