I am researching Luke Ward b: abt 1844 in Mayo, particularly seeking birth, death and ancestor information. I believe he married Mary Ann nee Myers abt Dec 1864 at Ulverston (registration district) Lancashire. (England and Wales, Civil Registration Index: 1837-1983, Vol 8e, Page 787, Quarter: September.) He must therefore have left Mayo bet. 1844-1864. He is in the 1871 census with Mary Ann and 3 children Elizabeth Mary, Edward and William. Mary Ann and children appear in the 1881 census but no Luke. I havn't located a death record for Luke but he was a Blast Furness Keeper in 1871 so may have been killed at work. Any sourced information or pointers for further research gratefully received. | |

Fran, I now have the Marriage Cert for Luke and Mary Ann. 26 Dec 1864 - The Parish Church, Barrow, Lancashire Luke Ward 20 Bachelor Labourer Barrow Dominic Ward Farmer Mary Ann Myers 18 Spinster --- Barrow Edwd Myers Labourer witnesses William Evans - Jane Myers none were able to write and made thier mark - X So it looks like the Dudley Ward family are a distinct possibility! (although Domoinic's elevation from Labourer in 1861 census is curious! (perhaps social climbing isn't such a new thing! Brian |

Fran, Thank you for your efforts. I havn't found any open access to GV so far. Which site do you use? Can you tell me if I am reading this correctly: The 'Occupier Type' is the HEAD or householder. Would this be the owner? The 'Lesser Type' is another occupant. Would this be a Boarder or Lessee? The record from GV is dated: Friday, August 31, 1855. Is this the survey date? If so, I'm not sure this is my Dominick. We know Dominick was in Dudley in 1851 (HO 107 2032) & 1861 (RG9 2059). I have been scouring available resources for other references to the Dudley WARD family group but havn't found anything so far. I am beginning to wonder if they emigrated again. Brian |
