Hello All I am new to this site so please bear with me. I am trying to research my Irish family and any help would be greatly appreciated thank you. William Wright was born about 1802 in Finboy/Finvoy and his wife Elizabeth nee Foster was born in Boldrishean (shown on the 1851 census for Scotland), but this could be Ballyrashane. I don't know when they were married or where but they had a daughter Elizabeth born in Ireland in about 1838. They moved to Scotland and lived in Argyll. Thank you for your assistance. Jenny | |

Jenny - This site gives a list of all the churches in the Finvoy/Ballymoney area. If you wish to write to any of them, I would suggest starting with the Finvoy one. COI means Church of Ireland (Anglican). Finvoy COI Rev John Cunningham Rev Robert Simpson (curate) The Rectory Queen Street Ballymoney BT53 6HY NORTHERN IRELAND ***************************** The Presbyterian Church in Ballyrashane has an e-mail address. Hope the above is of some help. Marian

Hi Jenny With this new information you have given us, Teri has found a lot more data which may help you. I will copy below: LDS throws up only one family - Parents John Forster and Elizabeth Sheel 1. BELIUS FORSTER - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Christening: 24 JUN 1804 Haydon, Northumberland, England 2. JAMES FORSTER - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Christening: 24 MAY 1807 Haydon Bridge, Northumberland, England 3. JANE FORSTER - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Christening: 09 DEC 1799 Haydon Bridge, Northumberland, England 4. ROBENA FORSTER - International Genealogical Index Gender: Female Christening: 24 JUN 1804 Haydon Bridge, Northumberland, England 5. JOHN FORSTER - International Genealogical Index Gender: Male Christening: 08 AUG 1802 Haydon Bridge, Northumberland, England Although there is no Elizabeth listed, the years of birth for these children would tie in with your timeframe. Could the family have moved from England to Ireland? Marian |

Hi Marian Unfortunately I feel this may not be the right family as the 1851 census for Scotland shows Elizabeth Wright (Foster) as having been bron around 1824. Mind you it also shows that she would have only have been about 14 years of age. Any thoughts Jenny |

Hi Jenny Yes, I have seen the 1851 and 1861 censuses. We know from these that Elizabeth Foster was born around 1821 - 1824. So it is quite possible that her parents were married in 1810. She may have had several older siblings who were born in the intervening years, say from about 1812 onwards, don't you think? Marian Manager |

Hello Marian My thanks to both yourself and Teri for the untiring research you are doing. I must apologise for not finishing the email I sent re Elizabeth Foster on the 15.4.2008. What I meant to say was that the census showed that Elizabeth was only around 14 years of age when she had her first child.. Jenny |

Yes that's right, Jenny. Girls did marry very young back then, at least by today's standards, and some had children when they were even as young as 12 years old. Thanks for your kind remarks. If we find any more information we will post on here. Marian |

Hello Marian On looking over these records once again I note that John Forster and Elizabeth Sheels were maried in 1810 and when I look at your message16 I note that the children were all born before this date, would this be correct. I know that some children were born before marriage but do you think all would have been. You would know far much more than I regarding these matters in Ireland. How would the family have travelled from Ireland to Scotland, would there be immigration records or not. Thanks again Marian for all the time and effort you and your team have put into helping me. Regards Jenny |

Hi Jenny It's highly unlikely that they had all their children before they were married, unless of course they did not marry at all, which is a possibility. The Irish and the Scots did travel back and forth quite a lot. It is a very short distance by sea from some points in Northern Ireland across to Scotland. I will ask Teri to get back to you on this when she is able, as she is the history expert! Her computer is down at present. Marian Manager |
