Your Lost Ferret

As soon as you notice your ferret is missing look for tell tale signs as to where he has gone e.g. : door/ window is open , vent missing or any type of escape hatch, and you've already checked in all the hidey places inside the home and checked they aren't asleep in their cages.

Here are some things you could try

1. Search the immediate area under porches in gardens and around shrubbery.
2. Take his favourite squeaky toy or treat can as a rattle a noise he is familiar with and will associate with safety and treats.
3. Knock on neighbours doors , ask people out walking or gardening and children out playing if they have seen him, they will usually want to help.
4. If there is a team of you you can print up flyers and hand them out  or Take a photo of him if you have one, Its good if you don't find him today, that they have your contact details for tomorrow.
5. Anywhere dogs are barking are possibilities .
6. Call the vets and shelters and pet shops in the area. Its a sad fact that Ferrets normally do not return home ,by the time they have worn themselves out investigating they have traveled to far to remember the way back home but there are some who have,
7. Place his carrier on the porch or in the yard with food and water in it and bedding with his smell on it.
8. Check where other outdoor animal are fed , he may stop there when hungry.

Prevention.

1. Ferret Proof your home .
2. Teach them to come to you using a squeaky toy or rattle can and treat them every time they come. For Deaf ferrets use a torch/flashlight .
3. Put a collar / harness with a bell on it when they are out of the cage.
