...else's card??

This is what happened at work: One of our receptionists (dental clinic - we have 3 recpt's, 5 drs, 4 hygienists, 10 asst's & me, office manager) has been off a total of 6 weeks over the course of the one yr she has worked for us, with a back problem - altho' 1 of those wks was with her step dd's ovarian cyst nightmare, another with a really bad cold/flu.....anyway, she came back to work, when her dr had given her a written note to have another week off.  She knew how much we all rely on her (she's awesome at her job and keeps everyone booked up) and she dragged her butt in. (She is actively pursuing a 'cure' - she had a pinched nerve, and has some sort of disc problem and a knee problem..., has an MRI coming up and a specialist appt - the office even provided her with a special chair bought just for her! - just this year all of this started she says....and she's also dieting - she's fairly heavy and dr's tell her a weight loss would help enormously for her back and her knee problem....)

So, to let her know how much I appreciated it,(as office manager, and as a friend),  I left her a card ( sealed in an envelope) and this really adorable ceramic apple with an infectuous smile (just like her - and she loves apples! - whole kitchen decorated in that theme...) on her desk so she would find it in the morning and get a little kick out of it (which, btw, she did!).....

Anyway, turns out, one of our hygienists ( the one who I thinks has enormous control issues - I think she wants to be office manager as well as hygienist - but that's a whole other book!!) actually asked her if she could read the card!!!!!!!!!!! '

The recpt. didn't know what to say - and said, ....yeah....umm....ok.......  Then, she went to get a tea from the cafe downstairs, came back and finds one of the assistants reading it as well - THE CARD WAS IN HER HANDBAG!!!!!!!!!!!

Am I being annul, or is this the worst thing you have ever heard? That was a private exchange between myself and this recp. and for the life of me, I cannot shed light as to why anyone would want to know what I wrote to her!!!! I can just imagine that the hyg. went around telling everybody - in what way I can only guess - saying it was really nice, or laughing at it because I was really stressed when the recp was off because the bitch on wheels dentist who she works for was on my back all week about every little friggin thing.....yet another book!!.... Just cannot fathom.....

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRr  Any ideas you smart ladies you???

Oh...forgot an important tidbit -  this same hyg is friends with the bitch on wheels dr and has her over for dinner etc.....well, she gave this dr the name of a recp who was 'great' and looking for a new job and the dr kept on me all wk that we had better replace this recp because she will be off again and she's been off way too much.

I got really mad at the hyg when I found out and told her to butt out - that I didn't think someone should loose their job or get reduced hours over a health issue!!!  In other words, she was helping to get rid of the recp with the back problem....but I believe you have to stand by your good staff and sometimes, you have to be human as opposed to all freakin business, right???

Ermm well... asking to read the card when she was there was one thing - a bit of a cheek, but at least she did ask But to take it out of the woman's handbag and share it with someone else that is completely unacceptable I would say!   Sounds like someone has a few 'issues' to work through is you ask me, FFS the woman can't help if her health has deteriorated and the fact that she came back even tho her doctor was willing to sign her off longer proves she's not a shirker - some people just don't know when to shut up and mind their own business it seems!!

Good luck with this hun , and stick to your guns - sounds like you're a great office manager who actually cares about the staff - a rare commodity these days

I totally agree with you there Sweetpea but I work for the Local Authority and they tend to put people first (mostly!). It sounds like you work in a place where faces fit?

Anyway, I would guess that you have some spyware on your PC judging by the addition to your post at the end. I would run Ad-aware or whatever programme you have got.

That seems incredibly rude to me, to take it out of her bag  Ffs.
I hope she makes a proper recovery, and as someone whos just had to have time off work for deteriated health, its nice to see that you really care about her.
