There were some British Government Ministers over in Ireland today looking at the smoking in the workplace ban. Apparently, the ban is imminent in the UK.

What are your views on this? Would you welcome a ban on smoking in pubs, clubs, staff rooms etc?

i would  but only cause i've given up now. I wouldn't of said that a few months ago though. No one's allowed to smoke in the local shopping centre but you still get the occasional one that does. I think it'll be hard for those that do smoke though

All our stores operate a no-smoking ban, there is a top floor restaurant in our Castle Mall shopping centre and there is an area for smokers to sit.  We go out so infrequently that a ban in pubs and clubs probably wouldn't bother me, most of the time we have the kids with us and I don't like them being 'smoked' over.

I do smoke but generally at home either in the garden or garage, I don't allow smoking in the house!

When I go into the city for shopping trips, occasionally I have a cigarette and coffee in a local coffee shop with a smoking section.  As restaurants tend to be family occasions, we choose to go non-smoking.

So even though I'm a smoker, I would probably support a ban, although I would prefer a choice.

Although I'm a smoker I think a zero tolerance on smoking in public places is a great idea  I don't miss them if I know I can't

this is a diffficult one i was a smoker but am no longer a smoker

i believe that yes in some pubs it would be appropiate to have a ban on smoking like family pubs but maybe in pubs that are not then it should be up to the landlord on their smoking policy

having said this i think its good to have a smoking ban in shopping centres

but i will say by banning smoking in all public places will not make or force people to give up smoking i think that the government have to realise that smoking is an addiction just like drugs and alcohol and rather than shaming people into giving up there should be encouragement and help

although there are smoking cessation groups out there they are often run at incinvienant times also you only have to relapse once then you kicked off the programme and not allowed back on for 6 months and a relapse is counted as having one cigarette

sorry bit long winded and i suppose my answer is yes in some places but no in others

I'm all for a public ban. Theres nothing more gross than trying to eat in a small place where there is either no seperate smoking area, or the place is that small it wont make a difference. Smoke travels either way. I also hate the fact that my kids are smoked over in eating places.
Sorry to be so blunt but it does annoy me. xxx Mc

I was all for the ban even though I smoked. Only one of my friends smokes and when the girls got together I knew that the smoke bothered some of them and I hated the fact that I was making them uncomfortable. The ban in pubs has really helped in my attempt to give up smoking. I always fell down at this hurdle but it is so much easier to go out and have a drink and not have people around you smoking.
