Should they be allowed?

One of our (former) customers recently flew to Switzerland for an assisted suicide. He had an acquired injury, having formally being hale and hearty until he fell under a train. I've just read in the newpaper about a German woman living in the UK who starved herself to death after MS left her unable to wash or feed herself and was doubly incontinent. She took 18 days to die..

If people have no quality of life, have their wits about them and know what they want, should they be allowed to die in peace?

My own view is that they should be the only person to make that decision and when it is made they should be allowed to die with dignity.

In my opinion people who have a terminal illness or a condition which leaves them with no quality of life should be able to take their own life,or have someone help them do it if they are not  physically capable,if that is what they want.
Why should people have to suffer and live with no dignity? Animals dont have to!! This is my personal opinion.

I both agree with you ...... im sure ive read about some living will
Where you can specify that you dont want to be resusitated if your heart stops etc .... if your ill , you can request if you want food and water as well. Pain relief etc.

I think there sould be one where your allowed a lethal injection if you want to go.
If you are suffering a terminal illness and you know what you want and you dont want to suffer anymore then you should be able to take yourself out of life and die with dignaty.

I totally agree - I would not want to put my family through any unnecessary suffering.

Yes I think they should be allowed. If the person knows whats what, and knows they have no end to their suffering they should be allowed to pass in peace when they feel ready.
I'm with Jen, we dont allow our animals to go on suffering uneccersarily so why should humans.

The problem arises when the person with the terminal disease is the source of inheritance for other family members who would gain if the person were to die. Who is to say that unscruplous ppl can't or wouldn't "assist" their much loved father, uncle or whatever to pass away in order to claim their inheritance ???? This isn't a far fetched notion. There is no reason why a person with a terminal disease has to die in any pain or discomfort in this day and age. There are fabulous drugs to assist these ppl in pain relief and reduction of anxiety. they are alert and comfortable.....able to spend 'quality' time with their family. I have worked in this area for the past 8 years
