Heard this debate on the radio earlier...should obese women (BMI over 36) be allowed IVF treatment? Apparently being overweight can put the health of the mother and baby at risk, and also they are less likely to get pregnany from IVF.
As someone who is lucky enough to fall pregnant without really trying, I don't feel it's right to deny anyone the right to have a baby, if an obese woman fell pregnant naturally, the "medical experts" can't stop that, so why victimise a woman because she's overweight and can't fall pregnant, especially when women of 66 are having babies now that should never have been allowed
I think the facts and risks should be given to the women before starting IVF and then it's their choice to go ahead with it. I agree, no woman should be denied the joys of motherhood. It's very unfair!
I think that being overweight can reduce the chance of you getting pregnant full stop, with or without ivf. If the doctors can't find a reason for the lack of infertility then it may be down to them being obese so would IVF be beneficial?
I agree with Linnie, but I do think it might be wise for the woman to be encouraged to loose a little of the weight before trying the ivf. It can only be benificial to her, and its quite possible it would make getting pregnant easier too.
