Over the last few years, while my thyroid was packing up unbeknown to me, my wieght has crept up and up. I have just kept increasing.
I have been on thyroid meds (T4) since August last year and the Dr said my wieght should go down, but it hasnt it has gone up!
I've found out since, that a lot of people with thyroid problems fare better on a combination of thyroid meds (T3 and T4) for losing the wieght especially.
But my dr won't entertain it.A lot of Docters are kind of stuck in the dark ages where treating a thyroid condition is concerned.
I help to run a thyroid support group and this problem comes up loads. Having a thyroid problem makes it doubly hard to shift wieght in a lot of cases. Your thyroid masters your metabolism and if it is not working properly the metabolism slow down to a riciculous rate.

The last couple of weeks i have reallly made an effort, i have exercised and been very active and i have been really careful with what i have eaten. I have written it all down and kept a close eye and what has passed my lips. I have switched to healthier alternatives, for breakfast I have been eating dried friut, nuts and seeds. I have eaten smaller portions and i have increased my water intake. I have been really good and it has been really hard.
After a week of this i gained a pound! And after another week i have shifted it again. So 2 weeks to get nowhere! I am well fed up.
I really feel like i want to get rid of this weight, for my health as much as anything. Maisie said to me "mummy i dont want to be mean but why are you so fat?" the other day I am 5ft 2in and wiegh in at 13.8 My healthy weight is around 9 and a half. I would be happy to get to 10.
I am never going to be skinny. I just want to be healthy and not look like a blimp.
9 years ago i was 8 stone. This was achieved by a very unhealthy diet of starvation and obsessive exercise and other unhealthy practises. It got a bit out of hand and I dont want to go there again. So i know i have to tread carefully.

So here i am, overweight, and fed up. Feeling like i am fighting a losing battle. I am going to try using Virgin Coconut oil, i have done some research and this is apparently good for your metablolism and thyroid function. I will probably take it as a supplement alongside my heathier eating and exercise. I'll let you know how I get on.

(((Jay)))
I hope you find a solution. It sounds like you are doing all the right things. You know what you should and shouldnt eat. There are some foods that will boost your metabolism, hence helping weight loss.
Tomatoes,Chicken,turkey,carrots,strawberry,melon,and many more.
If you feel like your not getting anywhere,do you think trying a different dr who is not stuck in the dark ages might help?
Good luck to you hun

Oh hunny, you sound so down about it.   It sounds like you've got a great plan worked out and I'm sure it'll work for you.  Is there any way you can see another doctor about the meds?

Aww babe, first off you dont look like a blimp, you always look gorgeous, but I do totally understand how your feeling . Been there fought the battle and still fighting it now, probably always will have to watch my weight, so I know how damn hard it is, only you have extra things that are against you. You're doing all the right sorts of things, Jen is so right about certain foods, and also did you know that you need to 'eat enough to loose'? Sounds strange but if you undereat you wont loose, your body will store fat.

I would seriously consider taking Kev up on his offer to send you private, cos you deserve the very best for treating your thyroid, and if research shows that the 2 diff treatments will help with the weight and metabolism thing it will be worth every penny to have someone who is really hot on the right way to go treatment wise.
You've spent so many years fighting your way through this thing its only fair your given every chance to get back to full normality. I know  how miserable being overweight makes you feel and if you ever need to talk you know where I am, anytime.
Love you sis

Well you are heading in the right direction, and being senisble about your goals and how to achieve them so the best of luck to you. Would it help if you showed your doctor your food diary and how hard you are finding it to loose weight? Can you change doctors? Is there a thryoid clinic you can go to and get advice and maybe a change of meds from?

Thanks for your messages of support.

I started the coconut oil low carb etc etc on Tuesday. I have been soooo good! I am drinking loads and not one thing on the "no no" list has passed my lips. I have had no coffee today. I did a stint on the treadmill yesterday. I have not wieghed yet.I am saving that for when i am feeling really strong.
Will keep on keeping on!
