This is a great playdough recipie, we use it at pre-school and it keeps for weeks, has a really nice consistancy. Very theraputic for mums and kids. Must be prepared by an adult!
Playdough

1 cup salt
2 cups plain flour
4 tsp cream of tartar
2 tbsp of oil
2 cups water
few drops of colouring

Put all ingredients in a large saucepan and over a medium heat keep stirring with a wooden spoon until it comes together in a smooth soft dough, (at first it will be sloppy and lumpy but bear with it, it does come together).
When cool knead well.
Stored in an airtight container it will keep fresh for weeks.
Optional additions are a drop or two of fragrant oil, vanilla is nice or for a bit of sparkle add a good sprinkle of glitter when you are kneading it.

Very handy to know Redjay. This will save me a small fortune. Thank you.
I have 2 questions though - When you say 'cup', do you mean small one or what I would class as a mug?
2- Am I best off using an old pan to make it up in?

I use this recipe too and I usually use mugs - i don't think it matters too much as long as you are consistent!  Also last time I tried making it in the microwave - it worked quite well but dried round the top of the bowl - so next time I will try putting cling film over first. The timing was a bit hit and miss tho   I kept putting it back in for a couple more minutes til it 'felt' right
As regards an old saucepan Noeleen - it does get very gunky (TECHNICAL TERM) lol but comes off well after a good soak!

And you've just reminded me I promised the kids at school I'd make them some 'green' lol

I used to make this for the pre-school I worked in and my own kids, the best thing is if you just follow the recipe, it doesn't matter if the kids try to eat it! .
