Day 4 ?

So much for me getting better at getting up in the mornings ?arrived at school 8.25!  Found my spiral snake from last year and ran some off on the photocopier on card ?we’ll make those today to reinforce the ‘s?sound from yesterday.  Also got out the Silly Sheepdog story ?more ‘s?!  Turned computers on ready but didn’t load any programmes ?decided that we will try starting out with the carpet session first today, that way once we start I won’t need to interrupt the children’s playing.  Put out some alphabet and simple word puzzles, Compare bears, join the dots, bead threading / counting.

Popped upstairs for my coffee.  Just had time to gulp it down before the bell!

Went down to let the children in, pulling out the coat trolley as I went.  TA is here today? Phew!

Katie’s big sister appeared to tell me she wouldn’t be in today as she’s poorly.  Opened the door and the children rushed in.  Some of the parents even said goodbye at the door and didn’t bother coming in this morning.  Some of the children were already heading for the home corner, dressing up and computers, so I told them they could play soon but I wanted to start with the register today.  They all sat down on the carpet.  Register quickly completed and 2 children despatched to take it to the office ( independently! ?We are getting brave!)  Fruit names on wall and fruit counted ?Heather noticed that there were 5 of each kind of fruit today, so I tried to explain that it wouldn’t have happened like that if Katie had been there ?I’m not sure who I succeeded in confusing most ?them or me!  Read big book ?children getting good at joining in with the first part.  Recapped on ‘s?sound and taught them snake rhyme, then demonstrated making the spiral snake.  All the children chose to have a go at making a snake and I was pleasantly surprised at how good their cutting skills are.  Maybe I won’t be in danger of losing my fingers this year ?last year it was a close run thing with one little boy, who would cut while I ‘steered?  By the time the snakes were all finished and hung from one of the lines across the ceiling it was time for play.  We all went out to the big playground to join the Y1and Y2’s.  Catherine had her ball and skipping rope to bring out, and George had his ball.  They all played quite happily until Bethan decides she has a tummy ache ?I tried a hint of sympathy, and then said maybe she was just hungry and we would soon be going in to have our fruit.  She decided that was ok and went off to play with Alice again.

Rang bell. Lined up, indoors, toilet and wash hands, sat down for fruit ?the children can even manage to sit themselves in something resembling a circle now ?progress is being made already!  After fruit we did some number rhymes and songs and practiced some counting.  The children then went off to play indoors ?noone asked to go in the garden, and before I knew it it was time to get ready for home.  Mandy commented that we hadn’t been in the little garden today and I said that I knew ?we’d just been too busy indoors!

Children all safely collected in one piece ?no bumped head letters today!
