Here's yesterday's saga - I went to bed last night upset.  I had a hard time falling asleep - for some reason in addition to being worked up about this, I had that "sleeping with one eye open" feeling and my oven was running thru its cleaning cycle so I kept paying attention to the smells wondering if our house was going to burn down because I have a decorative wooden bowl on the stove (as I write this I realize maybe a wooden bowl is not the best stove decoration lol - but still, it seems pretty harmless!).   Anyway, here's the email string.  In case you are sitting here with Timmy on your lap looking for something to read.  If you are keeping busy, then you are NOT allowed to read this!!! :-)

BTW This morning there was an email semi-apology and a refund...

There may be no skips on the copy of the mp3 you say came from this CD (by
the way, you sent Skin Deep, not Techi Generation), but the CD itself has a
tiny but visible scratch that is making it skip on my son's CD player.  We
chose you because your feedback was excellent but your email to me implies
I'm trying to put something over on you?  What do you think my ultimate end
game here is anyway?  I emailed right away just to let you know in advance
in case there was a problem at Game Crazy or you didn't want me to try to
have the scratch rubbed out - in case you preferred I not touch it.  But now
I have to say I'm a little irritated by your attitude.  Especially when I
plan to cover the cost and go out of my way to get it cleaned.  My 11yo son
saved for six weeks to buy this CD and I don't appreciate your response.

Thanks for your prompt response.  To be honest with you, I do not know what
a CDDB is nor is it relevant.  When I clicked the file you sent the computer
played the song "Skin Deep" (I didn't even look at the title until I read
your reply, I just know the CD and know what song plays when I click the
mp3).  I suggest you check your sent mail.  I'm still trying to figure out
why you think I would make this up - I'm not exactly drowning in extra time
this holiday season to play games with people who sell me things.  My
original email was polite and in no way inflammatory so I have no idea why
you immediately assumed I'm lying.  Anyway, I take it from your email that
you have no problem with me trying to get the CD fixed since that was my
original intent.  Game Crazy has fixed games for us before so I thought I
would give it a shot.  I live 20 minutes from you - if you'd like to take a
listen to the CD before I take it to the game store, just let me know.

Aw man, I'm sorry that you had to go through that. What a pain in the butt. Glad you got a refund and a sorta apology!! Is Braeden upset about his present or does he have a back up plan?

And yeah, how in the world do you sleep with your oven cleaning!? Ours is a self cleaner but we don't have a manual and I'm too paranoid to use it during the day! lol

I noticed when he sent me the CD that the return address label said "Hampstead, Maryland" which is right where we go to the library.  Did you like my very subtle "I know where you live?" hint or was it too subtle?

Whatever, at least it's resolved.  I didn't really want a refund because I want to keep it - it's a 25yo CD of a local band and hard to find.  Yes, Braeden's upset and to file a claim with Amazon you have to wait until January 9.  The good news is that the CD Scott already has, which was ruined before Braeden was born, still has that track unharmed.  I replaced the CD and then Braeden lost it when he was little (he has a habit of listening to some of Scott's CDs over and over and over in his room).  Scott's new car has an mp3 player built in so he can just convert the good track from the ruined CD.  For now, though, I'm going to lie and tell Braeden that Game Crazy fixed it.  No need for it to mess up his extremely good intentions.  He spent $30 on it.  I paid half though, but he didn't know that when he was saving up.  I'm not telling him about the refund either because I think that it's good that he spends some money.  There were a few things he bought that I just covered anyway.  I may send the refund back - the guy offered to rip me a new CD so I may take him up on it.

Oops I'm talking too much!  Do you really think it's bad to run the oven while we sleep?  I never thought about it but you're probably right.  I just think of it as warming the house.  Last night was the first night I was ever worried.  I won't do it again!

I'm just paranoid like that, re: the stove!

Aw, how cool on the CD and that you found one! It sounds like it will all work out. that's so neat that Braeden wants to do that for Scott. I'm not sure if I should take the girls out to get gifts for each other or for dh. Hmm...

They used to make gifts.  Now they buy them.  The last few years they did little chores to earn quarters and would buy $1-$2 gifts for everyone.  This year Braeden wanted to buy better stuff and I give them allowances now so they're using that.  I pay half of anything they buy so they can get better things.  They really like doing it.  I think the buying gifts things started with the Secret Santa shop at school but we go to Rite Aid or other drugstores or dollar stores now.
