Just a few as I'm sneaking on the computer:

Carrots that come in the bunch not the watery baby ones.

Apples cut up with caramel dip (at least they are eating apple; better than just candy or cookies)

Cucumber slices with salt sprinkled on in a nice arrangement on a plate with some carrot sticks and cheese chunks too maybe.

Pretzels

Nachos with cheese (not Cheese Whiz) - grate the cheese over.

Rice pudding (Kozy Shack is a good brand)

Meatballs (cut in half for little ones)

I always buy breadsticks now.  Sesame is good or the ones with rock salt on them.  Kate likes them but not Ben... Oh well.

President's Choice makes these low fat crackers that are made with oil instead of vegetable shortening.  My mom is always telling me how vegetable shortening or lard makes crackers and cookies so unhealthy.  That's why it's really better to make them yourself including making pie crust with oil or butter instead of oil.

The kids also like devilled eggs (mayo not so good but eggs are very nutritious and protein).  I never buy low fat mayo, margarine, or other dairy products.  I believe you will just put more on your bread so you might as well buy the real stuff.

Tonight for snack the kids had cantaloupe, Brian had a carrot (we call it a What's up Doc Carrot) and Kate and Ben had those low fat crackers, ... Kate had hers with that amazing cream cheese with green onions in it (comes like that from the store!!) Real green onion not dried stuff!  Brand is Western.  I'm sure the States has equal products or even better selection.

We do get chips but not all the time.  It's a hard one for me to quit.. comes from my parents hardly ever buying them as a child... so that is one reason to not completely deny your kids stuff... I mean I got chips maybe once or twice a year!!

I was just going to start a thread on this. When I'm watching a movie, I need to be eating. Since we're watching a few movies over the next couple of days, I need ideas on healthy snacks. I know there's plain fruit or veggies but I need to jazz them up a bit!

Popcorn isn't a good option (we do ours on the stove rather than microwave stuff) because I don't tolerate it well yet I love it.

So, give me your ideas!! :D

An awesome dip is tzaxiki dip (eat with pita bread - just rip in pieces or cut in triangles)  About two cups or more Balkan yogurt (high fat) or just plain regular yogurt, crush one big or two smaller garlic cloves peel on with the bottom of a mug or rolling pin.  Then remove peel (it will be mainly off from the crushing). chop, add to yogurt.  Shred a cucumber (peel on or off, i usually peel half of it) with cheese shredding size on shredder.  Squeeze out excess moisture, add to dip.  Add sea salt or kosher salt or regular if you have to.  Add cumin if you like that.  Mix (nice if you can leave it for an hour in fridge).  Really healthy and delicious but make sure you don't breath on anyone.

Guacomole or hummous are good too.  Guacomole: I use lemon juice, half a tomato for each avocado, sea or kosher salt, one garlic clove or more crushed and chopped.

Or I make nachoes with the works but that is a dinner that we have in front of the tv.  Not really a healthy snack but fun for kids if you want a fun dinner in front of a movie.

Pretzels dipped in yogurt dip is ok too but not very satisfying.

Maybe a dill dip would be good with veggies. We use Ranch salad dressing but I want to put a stop to that.
