Special People

My hearing may be shallow
My vision may be gone
I may not feel my legs now
But my heart is filled with song
I heard a group of people
Say these strong words to me
The day was long and weary
As I saw a little boy
He used his hands to talk with
But his face just sang out joy
I can't hear you then he said
But I feel now that your sad
Your face is so upsetting
Your frown makes me feel bad
His hands were moving so fast
As his face seemed to brighten
I don't know what he said then
Yet my heart seemed to lighten
I didn't understand him
Or how happy he could be
But I heard that little child
Say these few strong words to me
I may not hear what you say
My heart tells me your sad
You may now ask those questions
The ones that your heart had

My hearing may be shallow
My vision may be gone
I may not feel my legs now
But my heart is filled with song
I heard a group of people
Say these strong words to me
Then I saw a little girl
With a smile across her face
They called the young girls name then
My mind just began to race
Its not the name that hurt me
Its what I then saw her do
She reached within a small bag
For the walking stick she used
As if she knew my thoughts
She reached out her tiny hand
Said to me I know your there
I can feel you when I stand
I may not see your sad face
But my heart tells me your sad
You may now ask those questions
The ones that your heart had
My hearing may be shallow
My vision may be gone
I may not feel my legs now
But my heart is filled with song
I heard a group of people
Say these strong words to me

Then I looked across there
And I realized my heart sank
I saw a small child staring
His mom gave his arm a yank
She took her child by the hand
And began leading him away
I motioned her to stop there
And let her young boy stay
My wheelchair is big and black
There are times that I can't walk
Please don't scare your child of me
Let your young boy talk
I know my chair might scare you
Please don't start the fear in him
Then I smiled at the small child
And said these words to him
I may not walk at your pace
But my heart can feel your sad
You may now ask those questions
The ones that your heart had
My hearing may be shallow
My vision may be gone
I may not feel my legs now
But my heart is filled with song
