Hi, I have just in the past 1 1/2 years been told I have RSD. I injured my knee at work 5 years ago and had to have 2 surgerys on it. After the second surgery is when I developed RSD.  Now that the weather is getting colder here in Ohio the pain in my leg is getting worse.( the RSD has spread from just around my knee to my foot and hip)  I have been waking up the last few nights after only geting about 4 1/2 to 5 hrs of sleep because of the pain.  The pain during the day has increased as well. It is getting to the point were it hurts to much to drive. I am taking a sleeping pill at night, it puts me to sleep but it isn't doing a very good j ob of keeping me asleep. If anyone has any suggestions on how to get back to sleep once I have woken up please let me know. Thanks

I don't know if this will help or not, but if you wear yourself out during the day(I know thats tough if you can't do much, like if you're stuck in a whellchair),but make yourself stay awake for like 12-18 hours. Then your body is so wore out it just needs sleep.Sometimes it worked, but not always.Sorry,i'm not much help.

and tea's, plus other thing's.what i finally found out was my mattress was putting too
much pressure on my leg and back. i bought a memory foam mattress pad make sure it is 3inch's thick or it does not work as well. now i get at least 2 more hrs. of sleep a night.the four hrs. of sleep is still not in a row i still wake up alot, but i am alittle more

Hello,  I too have a hard time sleeping. I've had RSD for 7 1/2 years now and it's to the point where I need my normal meds to be able to actually "fall asleep".  But if I don't have those, I do take an herbal supplement called "Valerian" that relaxes me.  But one thing, because it's so cold where you are - you will need to adjust your body to that. RSD loves the cold and loves it so much it wants to share it and spread it to the rest of your body.  So even if you are having trouble sleeping, make sure you keep your body (especially the RSD effected) areas.  Wearing yourself out is easy too, especially for us RSD heads, our body get so worn out, but don't push yourself. Your body will eventually fall asleep.
