Hi Everybody,

My son is going to have lidocaine and/or ketamine infusions (not coma) soon.  I would be interested in hearing the experience of others who have done this.  Thanks, Linda

We had an appointment with Dr. Schwartzman last April.  We had to wait 14 months for it.  However, when the time approached, my son was doing so well we cancelled.  Then in June after he had been able to stand for a few minutes and even walk a short distance, the RSD spread from his legs to his arms and he got worse.  I was looking into taking him down to Tampa to be treated by Dr Kirkpatrick with the 3 day 4 hour high dose ketamine bc Workers' Comp was taking so long to approve a lidocaine infusion when we discovered that his doctor here (New York) at Beth Israel does ketamine.  So, that saves us the journey which I was not sure how we would do anyway.  I had yet to find out how the airlines could accommodate him if at all.  The journey from NY to Philly was the main reason we did not go to Schwartzman.  Our doctor admitts that they do not know what dose of ketamine to give or for how long.  The guy in Florida does high dose ketamine for 4 hours a day for 3 days.  She (my son's doctor at beth Israel) does less ketamine continuously 24 hours a day but I am not sure for how long.  I am very scared that it will not work and my son will spiral into depression as he did when the spinal column stimulator didn't work.

Hi,
My daughter just had Ketamine treatments in California, at the California Pain Clinic. She had 4 treatments, a week apart for 4 hours at a time. She has responded well, she has a reduction in her pain level and is much happier. She is not pain free by any means and the RSD symptoms are still there, ie burning and sensitivity, but it had made a difference to her. They recommend daily doses of Ketamine for 10 days but she had such a good result from the first one that they said the week apart was OK for her, everyone is different. She is to go back once a month now for booster infusions to try and maintain her lower pain level. I hope that things work as well for you family.

Thank you for responding.  I am glad that your daughter is doing well.  My son's doctor gives a lower level of the drug continuously.  I do not know for how long.  Dr. Kirkpatrick in Tampa does high dose ketamine for 4 hours at a time for 3 days.  I do not know what Dr. Schwartzman does.  I am just hoping that the low dose approach works.
