I just got told that I have RSD and the meds I'm on are not working. I am in constant pain and am having a hard time coping with the pain. How do you deal with your pain and the progression of RSD?

Hi, Sweetiebon!

I hope you're having a good day...or at least one where your pain levels are lower than what you've had.  There are MANY, MANY, MANY ways with dealing with RSD and the pain it brings.  One of the first things you need to do is make sure you are seeing the correct type doctor for RSD or, if the dr.'s your family doc., that he does a lot of reasearch on your behalf.  Also, I don't know where you live, but do a search for pain management doctors within 100-150 miles from you.  I know by now you're chin is dragging the floor on that one, but I've had a couple of appointnents I had to keep that were between 100-150 miles from.  A good pain management doc who knows and understands RSD is an anestheiologist - not one working in a hospital doing his job for a surgery,  but also has a clinic there for pain patients.  The one you're looking for is one who has devoted his life to treating chronic pain patients and RSD patients - one who has an office where he spends most of his time at except for those times when a procedure needs to be done in hospital ( which is becoming less).
Sweetie, by now i need to be laying back down....had alll teeth out yesterday so my pain ir over 10!!!!
email me please at [email protected]
from the responses you've gotten here so far, i'm not too sure if this is the right place for you.  i know a better group.
gentle luv and huggzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Hi Kath,  I also noticed that when I had a cavity filled my pain level went through the roof and lasted for almost a week.  This one dr in my court case said he never heard of RSDS in the face but I believe it is all connected.  And boy did I wish I could give him my pain for a day.  Of course he was the other sides dr so he would say anything not to get me to win my case which I didn't. But I have faith in the Appellate Court here in PA, so I pray everynight that they will give me another chance at my case.  take care Kim

{{{{{{{sweetie }}}}}  coping with pain is not ease. We use all the coping skills that we have n find more too deal with it. Pain does alot of things. We have too keep all the stress we can out of our lives . N diet,, n  food,, n counselors ,, n we try everything.  As you are going too find out it is a trial n error,, as drs do not know all about rsd. it affects everyone soo differently.  We keep looking for answers. n keep trying everything somethings more than a few times. We want things too work.   We work too get a good support network around us . We need all we can get.   Keep us informed. Do not be scared too ask any question.  keep letting us know what you find also.   have a pain free weekend.     annie

Hi hun, it is so hard to deal with the pain everyday, and the drugs.  But try to have faith, be totally honest with your docs, and hopefully you have some support at home.  You have support here, so don't ever feel alone.  We all go through basically the same things, so ask questions, vent, or whatever you need to do.  It will help.  Take care  Kim
