HI all this is my first post to this site as well
Janine was gracious enough to contact me and reinvite me as I did not respond to her initial post to me.

My pian levels have been very high as of late. I also have been having trouble with my eyesite. In my quest for relief I have tried Chinese Herbs, Acupuncture (which has given me immediate releif a couple of hours or so) Chiropractor (which kills me for about 2 days  physically mentally and emotionally, My wife wants me to countinue to go to chiropractor as she feels it will help.) I have not been able to find anything that has helped for any more then a couple of hours, other then a steady diet of meds the Dr.s have given me which make it almost impossible to function. As I sit here and type this I am still trying to decide if I want to go to my Dr.s Appt. today in 2 hrs they are going to give me the Intercostal nerve blocks today.
I am just so frustrated that all anyone can do is mask the pain in some way or another.
The nerve blocks I understand have worked for some and not for others .
Yesterday my 4yr old son comes to crying in frustration and can hardly talk I finallay got him calmed down enough to understand him. He looks me in the eyes and says "Daddy I love you but I Hate it that you work so hard that your back hurts too much to play with me that is what I hate."
I am a resaurant manager my job is not all that physically demanding. Although I can not stand, Sit, or do much of anythingn for any length of time.
I work 4 days a week 3 of which are dbls open to close. most days by the end of the day I cannot even focus long or hard enough to do my paper work.
OOPS SORRY I have rambled
DO I TRY THE NERVE BLOCKS TODAY?
that was what my question was.

Marty

I am so happy to have you join our family, and we are that here we are family and someone will always answer your posts...and I check the site daily for messages so I will usually answer first.

Ok on to your question. I don't know how long you have suffered from RSD so it is hard for me to say how you will respond to the blocks. I was treated with the first of the series of the blocks in December and they worked so well that minimal medication was needed for pain relief. My relief level at that point was between 6 and 8 weeks. The next block lasted for about 4-6 weeks (heavenly relief). The next block only lasted 2 weeks which made me no longer a candidate for blocks.

I tell everyone to at least try the blocks because there is a chance that if the blocks work you will go into a partial remission which means that the pain levels are at a tolerable level and your activities of daily living will increase. The meds will also be more effective. My sentiment on the whole RSD treatment thing is if there is a possibility of enough relief that you can get back to some resemblence of normal then try it. If it doesn't work you can really have no regrets later that you didn't listen to your doctor because it may have helped.

As for the use of herbs, chiropractics and so forth. My doctor told me that even though he supports chiropractics and natural remedies such as herbs they are pretty much a no no. He says make sure to check with a doc or pharmacist on the herbs because they may render your meds ineffective.

I hope this helps. Please see your doc today and talk to him about the other things you have been trying, if he is honest he will tell you straight up what will and will not help you and what may hurt you.

Again welcome to the family.

Luv and Hugs

Ok so some thing really funny came out of all this stress I created for myself today.
I decided to go to the docs I got there and the Doc said I needed to look at my appt card again. I did and said WHAT? he says your appt is for the 28th not the 21st
LOL
and to think I spent all that time in front of the pc this morn. and did not even notice the date.

It's an RSD thing Marty. I am always way late or way early for all my appointments. My doctors have learned to confirm with me quite often and yet I will still call and ask if I have the date right. I even have calendars and a PDA that I keep my appointments on but many times I have misunderstood what they have told me as far as my appointment date or time.

I guess what I am saying is that you are not alone and it is really important to have a great sense of humor and are not afraid to laugh at ourselves. I am so glad that it appears you are able to do that.

I hope this lull between appointments allows you to feel more comfortable making the decisions you need to make. You seem like a really stable person who with the right information is able to make decisions easily with enough information. If it ever happens again where the doctor talks to you about possible procedures just come on in and post your question. If I don't have the answer some one else just might. The only dumb question is the question not asked so feel at home in asking here.
