The holidays have been really hard for me the last 4 years since my Dad died a couple of weeks before Christmas 4 years ago. I have felt like crawling under the covers as I see all the lights and decorations and everything. It just depresses me.
My Mom hasn't decorated her house much but has mentioned that she kind of wishes she could. I used to professionally decorate for businesses... also decorate windows for businesses and decorated a tree for our annual Festival of Trees (which earns money for the local hospital) and my trees auctioned off all 3 years I did it for over $1000 each. I used to be very into decorating.
I can't afford to really buy presents this year so I went to my Mom's this afternoon and decorated her house and tree and made a wreath for her front door and stuff for her for Christmas. It looked like Christmas puked in her house...lol. She was very appreciative and said it really cheered her up. I also took her enough beef stew for her freezer for 4 meals. We had a pretty good time. She sat on the couch and talked to me while I put everything up. It was a nice way to give from the heart and use my talent instead of going out and putting more on a credit card or something. It also fell under the guideline of giving something which didn't junk up her house or add to "stuff".
So I cheered her up and it cheered me up too!

WTG Kandi... what a sweet thing to do.. I like the way you put it & also agree mine just looks like puke at the moment.. except for the living. room, noah helped me move the other stuff around to make a spot for the tree.. we got the tree up, but middle section of lites is not working.. so I'm gonna have to see if I can find the culprit... I hate that job.. but he also drug out big boxes, bags, left over paper (which I need NOW).. and they are kinda sitting all over the dining room/office area plus the 2 that he carried up from the basement  sitting in by the tree... oh well, it's gotta get worse before it looks good huh???? lol.. great job though Kandi.. have a great day~ gina

ROFL
I love this:
It looked like Christmas puked in her house...

Kandi, you always make me giggle.
What a wonderful gift for your mom.  And after reading about your auctioned Christmas trees, you must have the talent.
You cheered me up reading this.  Getting rid of the old Bah humbug attitude.

Gina, super ugh on all Christmas decor lying around.  I really try & stay on that each yr.  Some yrs I win the battle, some I don't .  Good luck.
