I am the only Stylist working in a small salon that is located inside a spa. Redken is the only color here. I only arrived on the scene 6 weeks ago and need to really familiarize myself with Phyto haircare products as well as Redken color. I have used Framesi and other color lines in the past but never Redken. The gal that worked here before, left no client records behind. I am out there alone except for the Redken hotline..haha..also the area rep who has come by twice to give me a hand with understanding the various color lines. There are many returning clients wanting foils, color, etc., etc. They say to me.." just look at my previous record"...well there are none. So far, to be safe I have been highlighting with bleach formula and using toner if need be. I would rather use highlift redken color especially for those levels 4 and 5 who want a nice caramel color instead of bleach. Does anyone have any suggestions on what redken color to use for it to be a one step process with foils to get that beautiful caramel color? Thanks for any help.

I don't have experience with Redken color, but I know there are others here who do who could help. I just wanted to comment about the previous stylist who didn't leave client records. Isn't it illegal to take client cards when you leave? They are supposed salon property. If you keep your own records, that's fine, but when you don't leave them for the stylist taking your place, if it's not illegal, it's just plain wrong. Anyway, I know you'll get more replies for this, good luck!

Star...yes it is wrong and I brought it to the attention to the director of the spa. She acted as if she did not have a clue. When I have worked at other salons in the past, the records are the property of the salon, and ya just better not take these with ya.. I told this to the director and she was unaware...Wow, I have my work cut out for me here...haha.. She then asked me to make an additional record of each client as I go, to give to her so it could be put in the computer as a record. Why wasn't this done before? I do blame my situation on the director because she is just not in tune with the hair salon but more into the spa therapists. This place freaks me out with returning shop customers who expect me to know color formulas that were used previously..Hahaha...are they kidding????????? I am new and learning redken color. I have to put on my biggest stage act of all time to make them comfortable...then I go to the color room and pray 10 hail mary's...haha..

I have used Redken for the last 4 years, and I love it.  It is my favorite color that I have tried, and I've tried quite a few.  It gives you pretty much perfect results everytime-no surprises.  Are you using color gels, fusion, shades eq?  I use them all, so just let me know if you have any questions.  As far as caramel highlights on a level 4-5, in Fusion they have a Double Lights series, which is made just for that purpose, or they have Double Blonde series, which is a hi-lift tint, so it will lighten more than the Double Lights.  They're a 1:2 ratio with peroxide, and turn out really pretty.  If you're using Color Gels, using their blonding gels, probably the level 1 or 2.  anyway, just let me know if you have any other questions, I feel pretty confident with all of their colors.  Good Luck!!

Thanks so much Katie: The salon has Fusion, Shades EQ, and Double lights and the other one, think it is Blonde lights..
I believe the Double lights is for use on level 1-5 if I remember. Now if I use double lights on a level 5 which formula would you use to obtain those gorgeous caramel highlights, and would you use a normal 20 vol? Thanks for your help.

redken color fusion has a whole new line of high-lift colors for levels 4-5. as long as you use one of those with a warm base, im sure you will get excellent caramel results without having to pre-bleach your foils, and go back and tone.

I LOVE REDKEN COLOR!  I'VE FOUND THAT THE COLOR GELS ARE BETTER FOR GREY COVERAGE, ALTHOUGH THE DOULBE N SERIES IN FUSION COVER GREY VERY WELL AND THEY FADE MORE TAN THAN WARM, WHICH I REALLY LIKE. THE COLOR GELS ALSO TAKE A LITTLE DARKER THEN THE FUSION LINE.
THE SHADES EQ LINE IS ONE OF THE BEST IN MY OPINION. I LOVE THE VERSITILITY IT HAS. I USE FOR IT FOR CORRECTION, TO REFRESH COLOR AND TO INTRODUCE COLOR TO A CLIENT WHO IS AFRAID TO TRY COLOR. THE SHINE IS FANTASTIC!

Liz, this is from haircolor with Cindy: Use a high lift blond color, the coolest one you have, which is AG, 3 or 4 levels lighter than natural level, with double 40 developer. Cool, because 4 and 5 natural levels have strong red pigment in it, and there is no need for a warm shade, and their hair will pick up warm anyway. Let me know how it turns out.

Thank you so much. I have copied this so I will remember. The area rep did give me the little shades eq recipe book. It has been a big help too. I will try the AG formula for next foiling and let you know. Thanks again.
