I expanded from a small 2 room Massage Therapy office to my own 1800 sq ft  full service salon. Its in a great location, across from the Hospital and major clinic, has lots of traffic on the street, great parking area, I have spent loads of money on fancy signs for the outside, and altho the Massage and facials are starting to pick up, I have an empty 900 sq feet all set up for 4 stylists and 2 nail techs and i can't find a single person in this town !  I had one lady that started with me 3 months ago, and she was starting to get a clientele going, but then up and quit on me cuz her husband is a bum and didnt work, so she couldnt wait for clientele to pick up and had to go work at a walk n salon at the mall. :(  she also took the clients that she had picked up at my salon...so now I am stranded and having to turn away people that call for hair cuts or nails or walk -ins that see the sign and come in to check it out..I have to say, sry, i dont have a hair stylist now....Any suggestions ?>????? I have posted ads in the paper, on the internet, i have even hired a 'head-hunting' agency to find me at least 1 stylist and  NOTHING!!!   Anyone with any suggestion I AM ALL EARS!  Thxs

Yes. Go to Regis Salon and pick up one of his stylists. He pays crap anyways
from the stories I've heard. I bet you will find many who will want to make
the leap. Take your pick.

WHAT ARE YOU OFFERING TO STYLIST? WHAT KIND OF PAY? ARE YOU OFFERING ADVANCED TRAINING, HEALTH INSURANCE? ARE YOU DOING BOOTH RENTAL?  JUST SOME THINGS TO CONSIDER. BY THE WAY WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED ?

First of all, congratulations on your new salon!!! This is always an exciting time. Unfortunately, it takes about 2 years for any business to get off the ground, and start profiting. I truely wish you success. I've seen your ad in the classifieds section, for those of you who would like to check it out, it sounds like a very relaxed atmosfere.

It would be unethical for anyone to scout out employees at other salons. It is rude and will give you a bad name. Those who said the pay is "crap" at Regis, probably is afraid of hard work. Every Regis salon is different, not all of them set a rediculously high quota for the stylist to meet in order to make commission, only some branches do, and some other companies. Others are quite easy.

I've worked at 50/50 salons, and if you don't have the clientel, then 50% of nothing is always nothing. Stylists have to have a large enough of a following to feel confident about not having a guaranteed wage. The insurance you could worry about once you have a full staff and the business is off the ground. Keep in mind though, that there will always be problems- those who will complain that there is not enough business, and those who will complain that there is too much. Sometimes these will be the same people lol.

My suggestion is that you offer a daily salary of lets say, $40-$50 a day, and the stylist has to double their salary to make commission. This is really not hard to do, and will attract the experienced stylists, and those who have a clientel, and will now have the newly added security. This will sweeten the pot a bit. Good luck, and keep us posted!
