A Thin Hope 4 ~Patricia Wallace Jones Charged with rain, a high tide takes her head on and the creek moans a wail so loud the dog barks - hair up and frightened but determined to save me from the flogging, drumming beat of the surf wash - protect me somehow from the hollow hearts of logs drubbed senseless in the drifting.
Day comes and the seizing done, the sea withdraws. In early light the creek seems lifeless, her mirror crazed save a swath of spring pale as the heron on a winter lifting.
On mornings like these, a muse weeps easily.
