A Sight 11
~Shavona Booker
When you found me
Slumped over by the side of the road
Bottle in hand
What were you looking for?
You asked questions
About why I was here
I would gladly answer if
Reasons were clear
If I could remember who or
What brought me here
So I didn't answer
For fear of what I'd say
I was just glad you came this way
Still you gathered me and guided me
And ushered me inside
I can still smell the pine
If your voice wasn't so sweet and
Your hands weren't so soft and warm
I'd have bet that bottle
That you meant me harm
But you showered me and shaved me
And fed me well
Much appreciated
I hoped you could tell
Now here we stand
Hand in hand
Surrounded by children
And I ask:
What were you looking for that fateful night?
When you found me
Slumped over; bottle in hand
Your answer:
