Being O- type blood, mine is always on demand. I used to give regularly and had a donors card that showed the total pints given and the card allowed free blood to any family member that needed blood. It is now 'free' and only a professional charge is charged for the medical staff performing the service of transfer. Is it a good thing for my system to be regenerating blood cells for good overall health? |

My guess is that giving once in a while might relieve you of iron overload, which is a problem in the West. However, if you are low in iron it could be detrimental. I'd just follow current guidelines if I were you, unless you start to feel faint or weak or something along those lines. I think eating a lot of cooked meat or unsaturated fat is very dangerous, in comparison to giving blood as often as current guidelines recommend. |
