First Aid Ointment
by Connie
100 grams Olive Oil infused with Comfrey, Plantain, Chickweed, Mullein, & Mallow
102 grams Anhydrous Lanolin (I as trying for 100)
25 grams Emu Oil
16 grams Beeswax
6 grams Lavender Essential Oil
3 grams Tea Tree Essential Oil
Melt Lanolin and Beeswax until melted, add Olive Oil that has been infused with Herbs, you might need to reheat a little if the Beeswax sets up to quickly when adding the Olive Oil. Add Essential Oils, pour into con-tainers. I have never had this go bad.I have also made this ointment using just beeswax and not any lanolin, I think then I increase the beeswax to about 20%. For Babies Bottoms I prefer it without any beeswax and just the lanolin. I always use Cold Pressed Extra Virgin Olive Oil and low temperatures and a long time to infuse. I prefer freshly picked but wilted for a day herbs. I always use Comfrey, Mullein, Plantain, but then add according to what is growing Chickweed, Cranesbill, Shepards Purse, Mallow, Burdock, etc. I prefer not to use more than 5 herbs. I often infuse each one separately so I have a very concentrated oil. I use herbs that I grow or grow wild here, you might have different things where you live. I really believe in using what grows near you. I also collected some of the sap of a pine tree that I will melt with the Olive Oil for one batch, but I won't add the essential oils to it. It increases the drawing power of the ointment (great for boils, slivers, insect bites etc. When I add pine sap I prefer to use beeswax to set it up and not any lanolin. This ointment has also been used to heal sores in the diaper area of an elderly lady with diabetes. Her daughter had used my ointments before and started using them as soon as she became aware of the situation, but the sores had already been there for a couple of weeks. She also used poultices of Slippery Elm. The sores healed nicely, much to the medical professions wonderment.
