TBC: Mari Saito | | Phoenix Winterborn and Mari Saito were sitting on the plane back from Toyko after the last WGEF Pay-Per-View and spending time with Mari's parents. Things went alright until Phoenix accidently said that Mari's father was a great nightcrawler. That didn't go over as well as one would've hoped. Mari was able to do damage control however and save the weekend. It was obvious that he still had a ways to go before his japanese was any good. Mari wasn't so much concerned about that, though. She was relaxing in his arms onboard the plane as they were flying over the Pacific back to the states, since Mari had a match on the upcoming Fight Night card. Phoenix looked down at her, stroking her hair gently as she occasionally snuggled up against him under their blanket. He smiled. Nothing had made him more happy than earlier in the week when Mari finally said that she was in love with him. Phoenix knew that he could spend the rest of his life with this girl, no doubt about it. He started talking softly to himself, imagining the day that he would propose to her. He knew it was going to happen, just not sure of when. Phoenix had hoped she wouldn't wake up. Phoenix Winterborn:
Mari...I've loved you since the day that I met you, and I can tell that I will love you for forever more. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Mariko Kaori Saito, will you marry me? Phoenix sighed to himself as he looked inside of his carry-on bag. Inside was a small diamond ring. That was going to be the ring he gave to her on that day. Figured I'd give this new puppy a spin! ^_^
And dumb me, totally forgetting that yesterday was Mari's birthday! | | She didn't know what made her wake up just then, but when Mari opened her eyes, she saw Phoenix hurridly rummaging through his carry-on bag. Blinking her brown eyes sleepily, she yawned behind her hand. "What are you doing?" she asked in a tired voice. He turned in his seat to face her again, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. "Nothing you need to worry about," he said, tapping her nose. "You should get some more sleep. We've still got a couple of hours to go before we land in Los Angeles." Suddenly, Mari went from exhausted to curious. She glanced from the bag back to Phoenix, raising an eyebrow. "What are you hiding from me?" she said suspiciously. "Mari, I'm offended. Do you honestly think I'd hide something from you?" Phoenix put on a look of mock hurt, holding a hand over his heart. Mari just studied him for a moment, and decided to let the subject drop for now. But one way or another, she was going to find out just what he was hiding... --- A few hours later, the couple was sitting in the terminal of the airport, in the early hours of the morning. They were waiting by the luggage carrosel for the arrival of their suitcases. Mari yawned again, leaning over to rest her head on Phoenix's shoulder. He put his arm around her shoulder and played with the ends of her long brown hair as they sat together. After a few moments, Phoenix gently disentangled himself and stood up. "Be right back," he said. "Nature calls." Mari giggled and nodded, watching as he walked off towards the washrooms. She stretched her arms above her head, turning her neck to work out the stiffness... ...and that's when she saw it. He had left his carry-on behind. The one holding the mysterious object that had been hidden from Mari's prying eyes. With a glance over her shoulder to make sure he wasn't coming, Mari pulled the bag towards her. Her hand hovered over the zipper, ready to pull it open, when she had an attack of conscience. She had never been sneaky in her life, but the curiosity was eating her alive. She just had to know what he was hiding! As she debated back and forth in her mind, she didn't notice when Phoenix came walking up behind her silently, peering over her shoulder... TBC: Mari Saito | | Phoenix was looking over her as she made the decision to reach for his carry-on bag, which had the ring hiding in it. He watched in silence as she peered into the bag, unable to find anything. As she non-chalantly looked back and around, she squeaked when she saw Phoenix looking down at her, smiling. Phoenix Winterborn:
Looking for something, dear? Mari Saito:
No! Not at all? Why would I be looking for something? Phoenix smiled and pulled her to her feet. Phoenix Winterborn:
You love me, right? Mari Saito:
Of course I do. Why? Phoenix scrunched his lips. He did this when he was deep in thought. After a moment, he pulled Mari up to her feet as he looked down into her eyes. Still as beautiful as the day he met her. Phoenix Winterborn:
You were looking for something in my bag, weren't you? But, I can promise you that the one thing you were looking for wasn't in there. Mari Saito:
And what exactly was I looking for then, hmm? Phoenix smiled, and reached in his back pocket as he got down on one knee. Phoenix Winterborn:
Mariko, I fell in head over heels in love with you the day that I met you. You're on my mind all the time. Every spare thought I have is devoted to you. I love you with all my heart and soul, and even though we've only been together a few months, I know that you are the one I want to spend the rest of my life with. I wish we could've done this in a bigger place, but now just seemed to be the right time to do this. Phoenix revealed a small black box in his hand as he pulled it open slowly. Inside was a one carat diamond engagement ring. Mari put her hands over her mouth squealing as her eyes got wide. Phoenix Winterborn:
Mariko Kaori Saito, will you give me the honor of being my wife? Mari was in stunned silence for what seemed like forever. Phoenix knew that this was the right thing to do. He was truly in love with her. Yaaaaaay!!! | Phoenix Winterborn / Trust me, you don't want to be on this side of the line. | | | | | Suddenly, there just wasn't enough oxygen in the world. Mari felt like her lungs were going to burst from the effort of trying to breathe. And then she realized that she was actually holding her breath, and let it out in a whoosh. She couldn't do anything but stand there and stare down at the scene before her. It was almost like something out of a romance movie...except they were in the middle of the Los Angeles airport. By then, a crowd had gathered after realizing who Mari and Phoenix were, and had gasped when Phoenix had gotten down on one knee and produced the ring. Now, the spectators were just waiting on Mari's answer... But she didn't notice any of this. She was completely caught up in her own world. For some reason, Taylor Swift's "Love Story" was playing in her head, and she just imagined herself in a beautiful gown, being swept off her feet by her Prince Charming... Phoenix cleared his throat, which brought Mari out of her reverie. She shook her head slightly, and blinked at him. "Hmm?" "Um, I'm still waiting for your answer," he teased playfully, motioning to the crowd with his head. "And I think these people are, too." Mari glanced around and noticed their audience gazing at them with rapt attention. She felt herself blushing and turned her face back to him. The ring glittered against the black velvet box, and Mari felt her eyes welling up with happy tears. Without even thinking, she dropped to her knees and threw her arms around Phoenix, kissing him passionately. He was caught off-guard, but managed to keep his balance as he wrapped an arm around her waist. When they parted, he gave her a smile. "Shall I take that as a yes?" he asked. She giggled slightly, her voice shaky. "Yes! Of course!" They got to their feet, where Phoenix slipped the ring onto her delicate finger. It fit perfectly, like he already knew her size. She stared at it for a moment, her big brown eyes shining as she gazed back up at him. "I love you." "I love you too," he said, tucking a stray lock of her hair behind her ear before planting a kiss on her lips.
